I think some genuinely think they are going to challenge for the title this season. Some Mags were talking about it today and it was that situation where youre not quite sure if they joking or not

Far from clear that Staveley has access to the investment fund in the way most mags seem to think she does. They weren’t able to compete with Villa in the last window and haven’t so far this summer either.

New signings and contract renewals so far are: Schar, Dummett, Burn, Trippier, Targett, Longstaff, Wood, Guimares.

Adding 8 players like that to 17 of Mike Ashley’s players and putting the bloke who relegated Bournemouth in charge does not add up to a top 6 finish.

A lot can happen in the next 10 weeks, but that’s where they are at the moment.

They're dining out on the people patch they had at the end of last season. Most of those games they were massively outplayed, had very little of the ball and won by the odd free kick or pen.

That isn't the look of a side that's going to push on top 4 or even 6

Could be 3 more galacticos on the way:

I remember the days when it didn’t look like the takeover was going through and the scum were falling over themselves to claim it was just about investment in the region. Not heard that bollocks muttered once since the takeover.
Cant make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.

Though you can serve one to your kids for breakfast.

The mags will finish 12th at best and will be knocked out of all the cups in the early rounds. Last season proved whenever they played any half decent opposition they got turned over.
Really?
So we will do no better than last season. On what basis do you arrive at that conclusion, logic or simply blind hope?
In regard to "half decent"....
Arsenal, Palace, Leicester, West Ham, Leeds. All of these would, in my humble opinion, fall into the category of being half decent. We didn't get "turned over".

Mad prediction.
Finishing 12th would actually be worse than last season.
Early cup exits again, and a 12th place finish is regression. I don't see that happening tbh

Lol

I absolutely love this thing now, of media both home and abroad, adding Newcastle United to pretty much every major story. Almost every big transfer, real or imaginary, of proper elite players, seeing Newcastle United tagged on.

Whereas once upon a time we would be included with the likes of Burnley, West Brom and Huddersfield when it came to listing clubs supposedly after a certain player, we are now added to PSG, Man City and Real Madrid!!

Do you not think consolidating in that mid table area would be a good outcome? I think that's probably what you're aiming for at the moment. Looking at your recruitment, that looks to be the target.

Mid table finish, with no relegation threat, and a decent Cup run would be progress in my opinion.

I'm not sure there is any option but to aim for that and then build.
Problem with aiming for midtable could end in anywhere from 7th to 20th in the prem. There is very little between all of the club's outside the big 6
It's going to be difficult for NUFC to break into the top 6. They are some distance ahead in terms of the quality of their squads.

Slow and steady. They are miles ahead. It will take a long time. It might never happen.
