NUFC and other Sportswashing Spring 2022

Slight topic change but im to scared to start a new thread!
We live through Newcastle, have had season ticket with my Dad for over 20 years (just for a bit of background).
Got an email on Monday from daughter’s school to say how delighted they are at getting NUFC in to do ball skills with them and what not. All well and good but im sure you can see why I might be slightly displeased.
So I’ve written to the school to ask if any other football groups were contacted and how its come about that a more than questionable state funded organisation has been chosen to work with Children and what sort of example is it setting to them?
Ive also asked if there is anything in the curriculum to discuss how bad these sttes are and if so, does this represent a contradiction within the curriculum which simply hasn’t been highlighted (due to sport washing of course).

No response from the school and I dont expect one, and im not the sort of person to withdraw her from the class as I dobt want her to miss out.
But if doing football training with 5 year old kids is not the biggest example of sport washing, I dont know what is. Get them while they are young etc.!

Not really, as I said, I’ve never taken a great deal of interest. I’m not on Twitter, and never read any of the stuff that’s posted on there, it’s full of whoppers with controversial views looking for the attention of anyone who gets sucked in. Can’t understand anyone who goes on there tbh.
Me and my red and white mates get along the same as we always have.
If my views make me “complicit”, I’ll have to accept it.

For clarity you have no interest in world affairs?

I think they were expecting a few more bigger names to be through the door by now.

They're not even in conversation for the best players available. Not even the likes of bissouma and eriksen who should be well within their reach.

I think they'll have an average window struggling to bring in anyone of high note, Howe gets off to a bad start and the fans start to turn.

Bruno is their only high profile signing as of yet and he'll be found out. I remember didier zokora coming to the league and looking like prime vieira before teams wised up to how he played.
You should have started the first paragraph with "Once upon a time..."

5 days into a transfer window. A capable left back signed. Revisit when the window shuts maybe!?

Not a vast amount.
Are you trying to drag me into a moral argument? I’ve said I don’t agree with what happens in SA, and 99.9% of folk I know don’t.
I’d better keep off this thread for a while, or I’ll get banned for being repetitive.

No, not at all. I just find it odd that an adult can have no interest in what goes on in the rest of the world.

Just because one player turned out to be a dud doesn’t mean another one will.
Obviously I hope you’re correct like

It is miraculous that all new players hit the ground running - how often does that happen? Look how long it took Tiago to settle at Liverpool.

Some paranoia going on there. I’d be surprised if any football club didn’t engage with local schools. But you’re saying it’s THE BIGGEST example of sports washing. You sound like a wet blanket to me.

They didn’t. Targett, Burn and Trippier did but they were an upgrade from shite. Bruno was eased in over 6 weeks and Wood couldn’t hit owt running.

We've seen it so many times in the PL though, a foreign player comes in, hits the ground running and in 6 months to a year they're found out.

Wood did exactly what he was expected to do - provide a focal point for the attack.

Fair enough Bruno was eased in but still miraculous that he adapted to the Prem so quickly as very few do. Here's hoping they are not as lucky with the next lot of recruits and EH reverts to type like Ibe, Gradel, Rico...

Miraculous!!! Howay man, Lyon paid €20m for him to a Brazilian outfit, he’s a proper thoroughbred and was well regarded across Europe. It’s true that not everyone adapts quickly but your hyperbole is laughable.

Laughable? Do you even watch football beyond NUFC? Everton signed a tonne of players for more than that - all with great pedigree and turned out to be duds. Likewise it took ages for Keita and Thiago to settle at Liverpool. Even Fabinho (from Monaco) looked poor at first. Man Utd paid a big fee for Fred for him to flop. The list goes on. No team expect a signing from likely the 5th ranked league in Europe to step up to the Prem so quickly.

NUFC were not expecting Bruno to settle in so quickly. By all accounts he wasn't even on the radar for Jan but when Spurs moved for him they had to react in case they missed out on him. He was not needed for the battle needed to avoid relegation. But then more points than expected were achieved so they had a chance to play him and it paid off.

You’re underestimating the tactical genius and motivational skills of Eddie. When we combine that with Dan Ashworth’s knowledge of the market, I think the future looks rosy.

Ha - I know you are on a wind up.

Fecking thoroughbred!

The truth will out - maybe he doesn't back himself when he (apparently) turned down Spurs to join a team bottom of the league with (at the time) relegation looking likely. Let's see how this all pans out and whether his 11.5 x 90 minutes are a good indication of the future when he is expected to get on the ball not watch it sail over his head - he had less touches per 90 playing for NUFC than in the three prior seasons with Lyon - HOOF!!!
