NUFC and other Sportswashing Spring 2022

There's a BBC Arabic correspondent on BBC 2 now saying how MBS is trying to make Saudi more progressive. He's not going to undo years of backwards beliefs and policies overnight but on some issues they are improving. That's not to excuse their atrocities. The issue of being born and raised with certain beliefs is troubling. There'll be good natured Saudi's who've been nurtured to have abhorrent views. That won't change overnight and casting judgement on their people is counterproductive imo.
Bullshit.

Bullshit.

She was saying how the religious police who were once a visible presence now keep a.low profile and a woman won't be confronted for not wearing a head dress anymore. And they're also allowed to drive now. Small steps, granted. Whilst they're a presence in western sports any atrocities are more likely to be reported on.

Take your Saudi propaganda and fuck off. Ask yourself what went wrong that you’re on a football message board apologising for this vermin. Completely and utterly brainwashed because they bought you Chris Wood. What a pathetic creature you are.

All countries go through the UPR process at the UN every six years. It’s an opportunity for other countries to examine one nation’s human rights records – and offer recommendations.

Saudi Arabia is halfway through its current six-year UPR cycle. To mark the milestone, we investigated how Saudi Arabia is performing against the recommendations it accepted in 2018.

Our report, produced with the European Saudi Organisation for Human Rights (ESOHR), shows that Saudi Arabia has made little to no progress in implementing any of 199 recommendations it accepted in 2018.

Let's not forget when the Saudis pulled out first time there was plenty of sentiment on here about there being a better value club up the road. That'll be forgotten though.

I'm not apologising for anyone. I just don't think demonising people born into a certain way of life is how you bring change.

You're a terrorist sympathiser.

Dont preach on here about Saudis improving their disgusting culture.

I didn't. I said a BBC Arabic correspondent was. Check the programme that was on BBC Two before what's on now.

Either way I'd be upset if the Saudi ownership were stopping the club from having modern and progressive values.

Qatar are a bigger issue for me. Hosting a world cup there is a disgrace. Are they letting lgbtq+ fans go?

Just give up the faux geordie shite doesn't wash

Not sure what that means like but I'm not here for a fight. At first I was just excited about my team competing, which remains the case. But I have given the issues in the Middle East plenty of thought and I'm not comfortable just labeling them all barbaric. Ultimately they're never going to be liberal western types because of what their religion teaches them. I want them to move and meet us in the middle somewhere though. But I don't know how that change happens.
But the faux outrage at everything Saudi just comes across as jealously. That you can't have a sensible conversation about it comes across bitter. Ashley (who we should all be grateful for) sold to them and left them a million PR wins. Renaming Shearer's, moving his statue, having a modicum of footballing ambition.

You'll never see me flying a Saudi flag but I won't object to their ownership either. Life is shit and the prospect of having a good side is enticing. Selfish as that may be.

Proving my geordieness? Make a coherent point.
I can't be the only one worried about this Exile lad's wellbeing? This has shattered him.

Mags coming on here is an immediate admission that they know something is wrong with their ownership. Protesting / justifying. Its pathetic
If they packed up their circus and left the board, this thread would be a fraction of its size. They try a bit of whataboutery, get abusive then get banned every time.

Sima?

Dummet, Longstaff & Targett speaks absolutely nailed on Top 4 to me. It's not going the way they thought. Couldn't happen to a nicer club. MURDERERS
Trippier and Bruno show the intent.
Longstaff is a better player than people think and I think he'll up a gear in the next season.
Dan Burn is no slouch.
Nobody's expecting the top 4 next season or the season after. A slow and steady build is the key.
