Some of the comments are taking delusion to another level, one of them expects to be ahead of Man u next season, and to be giving Spurs and Arsenal a run for their money....

Which is going to hurt when they're still mediocre next year.

I have no doubt they'll improve in the Summer, but so will a lot of teams. Some of them go on like they'll be the only club buying anyone.

Giving Paul Dummett an extension to his contract is very telling in my mind

Ar first I thought it was to ensure they have 8 "home grown player" - "Out of the 25 players, there can be only 17 'non-home grown' senior players. So the rest eight must be 'home-grown' players if a team needs to fulfill the maximum quota of 25. 'Home Grown' means that a player must have been on the books of a club affiliated with the Football Association (England's governing body) for at least three years before they turn 21 – it does not mean that they have to be English."

But when I counted they had bloody loads of home grown players in the official squad. Darlow, Gillespie, Langley, Dummett, Lascelles, Lewis, Trippier, Targett, Burn, Shelvey, Ritchie, Hayden, Murphy, Longstaff, Willock, Gayle, Wilson. If they are signing Dybala etc. (seriously seen a knacka saying they should sign him) they only need 8 of these.

Exactly, he’s being signed to play. They are trying to get Sean Longstaff signed up as well.

They’ve also been unsettling Saint Maximin since the moment they arrived, as well as Dubravka and Almiron. They haven’t got many other players who would fetch much of a fee.

Staveley owes £10m to Ashley and £30m to the Reubens.

They signed Wood and Burn for £38m combined on 2.5 yr contracts. They’re now 2 journeymen 30 year olds with 2 years left on their deals - 6 months after signing they’re already worth close to fuck all.

Sort of thing that wouldn’t happen if you had a director of football in place, but they haven’t been able to appoint one, for some reason, and looks like they still won’t have one this summer.

Honestly, there’s red flags all over this - I think they’re going to be massively disappointed. I suppose fans at all clubs tend to believe any old shite if they’re winning a few games. Don’t think Howe’s record suggests he’ll keep this going forever either. He did do well at Bournemouth, but they were relegated in the end.

GET IN THE LADS, well done a result's a result
I wonder if we get as little coverage on tyne tyne or Look North Korea tonight as the stinking scum got last night
Why wasn't Be Eddie interviewed like every other NE manager?? Very strange
Explanation any one?

Comment from the Mag regards Man City. Absolute Fruitloops these fuckers 🤣🤣🤣

They're resigning Dummett & Lingstaff & expect to be challenging. Barmy

""We should have extreme caution in passing any comment on Man City here. Remember they’ve been soaring like this for over a decade now, and I don’t think it’s good for an atmosphere when you turn up expecting to win easily every week and being proved right most of the time. League games like this are filler between Champions League attempts and the one game of note with Liverpool that determines the destination of a league title that maybe doesn’t prompt the excitement it once did. You have to wonder if we may be on this path and how long it will last before similar barbs are thrown our way.""

Chris Wood was the ultimate panic signing. They had Watford at home coming up iirc and still hadn't brought in a centre forward. It would have been criminal over 2 weeks into the window to go into that game without a striker. I think they got drawn in to the "unsettling Burnley" strategy and forgot about the fact that £20m for Chris Wood was silly money.

They'd do well to get half of that and imo it's likely to will leave on a free when his contract ends. he's probably on a salary he won't get elsewhere so will sit tight and see it out. A big thing was made about having so much wriggle room with FFP - they've used a decent chunk of that on players they will be looking to replace after 6 months...

Which January signings do you think we will we be looking to replace other than Wood?
I think Gayle will leave in the summer and we'll be looking to sign another striker. Wilson is good but injury prone and Wood will be there as back up to Wilson and whoever comes in

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈

The majority owners are asset rich but with little liquidity....they have lost 6bn recently on Lucid and Uber but oh no they are the richest clerb in the world.

Howe is an interesting one. He was obviously never first choice. I said at the time, if Newcastle were really ambitious, he'd be gone if he kept them up and replaced with a bigger name.

Problem is he is now a hero of the fans. Much the way Rafa was, and we all know what happened when Rafa walked... they said he'd been sacked/forced out. I suspect AS will want to keep the fans sweet

So for next season at least they are stuck with a very mediocre manager at that level

Beyond deluded.

Most of them still don't grasp the reality that the PIF has to fund a list of 22 other major investments and growing.

I haven't got the energy to engage with them on twitter.

They are owned by a volatile regime currently involved in a war with a neighbour, whose ruler got to power by locking his enemies in a hotel and stealing their money. This will not end well. In my mind with every superstar they on 150k p/w it increases the probability of a financial meltdown further down the line when the only potential buyer is someone with bottomless pockets.

We don't know he's mediocre as he's never had a decent budget to play with and the players he signed in Jan are all ok apart from Wood who knows he would never be 1st/2nd/3rd choice next and may leave with a pat on the back on a lower fee. Hopefully we sign Targett another CB plus striker/s & goalkeeper players out should be Lascelles/Ritchie/Gayle plus a few others, we will build slowly/carefully not the expected spunking millions on overrated mercenaries that a few on here are hoping for.
Howe has done a great job keeping us up and I'll be happy for him to give it a go next season with a few good signings.....who knows we might finish in top 8 and build the season after that
