CC :: Worcestershire v Durham

Effortless 50 for Bedingham.

Been a great innings from SB too after one or two early lbw scares. He looks way better when he's attacking the bowling, which is weird as he was always a cautious batsman in his first spell at the club.
Ed Barnard is a good cricketer
Definitely their best player. Big hundred against Notts.

Durham 339-3 (96 overs)

Borthwick 80*
Bedingham 69*

Current partnership is worth 117.

Run rate is 3.53, if we maintain that tomorrow we’ll be on 390 at the bonus point cut off, so not much of an increase required to get maximum batting points.

An excellent day, pretty much as perfect a day as you could hope for after winning the toss and opting to bat. Every batsman has contributed, a couple of lads out of form have made big scores and Sean Dickson has passed 600 runs for the season.

Hopefully we can come back tomorrow and push on beyond 500 and put them completely out of the game.

Brilliant day for Durham

2 innings in a row now, pitches help but much needed after 2 or 3 collapses

Gonna be disappointing if it's another batting road and both teams get 500/6 dec.

Suspect there's going to be a big onus on Trevaskis to take wickets.

It will be, but I think Stokes being in the side is huge. I think it makes us a completely different proposition, so too is scoreboard pressure if we get up beyond 500.

Furthermore, as flat as the pitch appears to be, I feel like Worcestershire barely bowled anything at the stumps. Similar to the criticism of England’s bowlers at times in the past. I remember a spell from Leach where every ball seemed to be above the knee roll when our batsmen were playing it.

Down Worcester at the game. Local’s claiming the wicket is a road easy runs to be had. Some of their bowlers have been getting bounce and carry so we shall see. They’ve also bowled some dross so they weren’t impressive.

Great to see Badger in the runs. His batting when scoring his first 50 runs was top notch. Hopefully he can kick on tomorrow, get a big ton and get the monkey off his back.

Regarding the wicket I hope Ned is not standing up to the wicket to our opening bowlers with the new ball like the Worcester keeper was with Leach.
The wickets maybe flat this dry spring but there is a fair few county trundlers being found out who think they can just fart it out at 70 mph and expect the wicket to make them look unplayable.
Going to be a lot of tired bowlers having to play 4 day games which actually go 4 days by the end of round 7.

I'd have come down for a few days if didn't have mates visiting. The ground looks lovely, hope to make it next year. Any top tips for a trip?

Encouraging comments from David Hoops at the game
" Two weeks ago, they (Worcestershire) racked up 491 against Sussex and went on to win by an innings. The moisture content of this pitch is reportedly identical, as is the grass cut. And heavy cloud cover is forecast for late on the second afternoon, about the time Worcestershire can expect to be batting"
Without Googling it, can you name a former British PM who has played first class cricket?
Sir Alex Douglas-Hume

Actually not really! But I will expand on that. Travelled down on the train. Couldnt get booked up in the Premier Inn Hotel which forms part of the ground as it was fully booked as was most of the other accommodation. I was told that apart from the cricket there is racing on and some flower show, the place is rammed. But you wouldn’t really notice walking about. The best digs I could get is in a Travelodge about 15 mins walk from the ground. Rooms decent, view is out on to a large flat roof and to the left Worcester Cathedral. Very nice.

The Travelodge is on top of a modern shopping centre in the city centre. But the city centre is very quaint with a mix of Elizabethan, Georgian, Victorian, and modern (shite from what I have seen) architecture. This makes for narrow streets with lots of pubs and restaurants. I’ve been here 2 nights so far and can’t think of a reason not to return. The ground is just as it looks on the TV. The locals do get a bit animated at times but definitely aren’t rabid like some other Counties I could think of (YORKSHIRE).

Mind you the next 2 nights are Friday and Saturday so it’s quite possible the city will be full of Carrot Crunchers and Hillbillies looking for bother so may have to reconsider my opinion. But so far everything is more or less on the doorstep, can just walk to whatever you want.
