I keep saying pundits saying Newcastle, with their spending power, will be challenging very soon.
It got me thinking if that's all it takes why do teams spunk millions on the academy, why spend millions on training grounds, why recruit teams and teams of specialist coaches and analysts. If that is all it takes why not get rid of them all and focus on the 1st team? Pundits, of course, no nowt!

I honestly think (and hope) it will be somewhere in between, like january. We can’t do this quickly. Maybe one or two expensive high profile signings like Bruno, but basically trying to incrementally improve in a few positions. Burn and target weren’t the most glamorous or high profile, but they’ve been brilliant. More of that kind of thing.

You had a number of drunken European mini breaks and a few days out on the piss in Newcastle. But footballing wise you won feck all and history is about to repeat itself. I’ll remind you the Shearer fee was equivalent of 222m today - you spent 100’s of millions (in today’s terms) and won nothing at all.
