Ben Stokes Test Captain

Ben Stokes agrees to be England's new Test captain and should be confirmed soon with a press conference tomorrow likely. His first move will be to bring Stuart Broad and James Anderson back into the fold.

Does this make it less likely that we will see him playing for Durham before the start of the test series?

If Stokes has the power to bring them back makes you wonder how much of the decision to drop them was down to individuals no longer in role

Rob key spoke well on SSN about everything there and his plans with Stokes , I’m more interested in knowing who the test coach is going to be

Chief sports writer at the Telegraph thinks it's a very bad idea - not least for Stokes himself given he's only just returned from a stint way due to MH and stress issues. And I think he has a point. This could go very wrong for him.

On the other hand there definitely are good reasons for thinking he's is a good option and I've mentioned previously that he's impressed me when talking about games. I think he'll be good at game management in the whole team sense as he is for game management for himself, once he gets settled in.

My worry is that he'll try to be a one-man team, more specifically he'll be tempted to bowl too much and do more damage to that knee.

He might be the alll round best Captain since Tony Grieg or it might go horribly wrong.

Strauss did it like

It was absolutely no big deal and was worth ago

We wouldn’t have won with them there, they’ve played countless series in the West Indies

Good appointment

Not worried about the mental stuff as key spoke well on sky about the bubble and Covid stuff was a big driver of that for lots of players

Ridiculous we were even playing really

I’m excited

Captaincy is over egged in England like. The main thing is selection and scoring runs

have they really considered stokes to be the best captain, like Vaughan, Strauss, Cook, or is he going to be a captain like Filntoff Pieterson or Root.

It doesn’t feel right, I worry it’ll affect him negatively from a playing sense. It’s understandable though, there’s nobody else at all who could’ve got it.

I wish him all the luck in the world of course and it’s a massive nod to just how important Durham County Cricket Club are to the English game.

He would have to give up some form of cricket
T20 i hope, let him play IPL if he wants provided he misses 0 tests, reduce his 1 day workload based on test series

Pieterson only had 3 tests and 2 1 day series, always think its harsh on him given it was South Africa and then India away and he was right about Moores not being good enough.
Flintoff fully fit was brilliant in leading a patched up team to a draw in India - hugely undervalued result. Got injured against Sri Lanka (his fault) and was never fit enough for the Ashes which was a trainwreck in every department not just his captaincy.
