Ben Stokes Test Captain


Sadly it was an inevitable decision as he was the only real candidate but I just hope it doesn't destroy him as a player.
 
the only issue with Stokes is bolwing himself too much

However, the reason he bowled lots in Caribbean, or other tests abroad, is because he is a much better bowler than several of the others in the team

We had Chris Woakes, Matt Fisher and Craig Overton. Ben Stokes is a much much better bowler than them on flat pitches

However, we should never ever have picked that attack. If we had bowlers with a point of difference, pace, lads who can reverse it, left armers, leg spinners, then Stokes would not have bowled much

thats how you avoid that issue, pick a more varied frontline attack. Dont have Stokes as your variance, if that makes sense. Have him as the 5th bowler.

Really need to get both Archer and Wood fit and have at least one playing every test to ease the pressure on Stokes, I think Mahmood has the potential to be good in that role as well

You know what he's like. I think it's just as likely has a positive effect on his play.

If you want an England side with ben stokes as the 5th choice bowler were going to have to start picking players from around the world like!

It's not quite as easy as just saying let's get left armers and leg spinners in the team, players good enough have to actually exist first

They do; we have a leggy

My point isn’t that far fetched like don’t ever ever pick Chris Woakes abroad

There will be bowlers in county cricket more suited to playing in Pakistan this autumn than him

Just off the top of my head Jamie Overton bowled 94mph for surrey last week

It’s like people saying we’ve tried all the batsman these, burns, pope etc are our best players

We haven’t. Countless players with good records

There is talent in England the selection is all wrong overseas

We do have a leggy by the way, albeit in a leach fan

Aye mate says he wants to be an all rounder and that’s best place

Stokes is quality batsman in his day and utterly selfless however I don’t think he will ever be a consistent reliable run scorer in the top 5. Needs to attack from 6

He refused to be drawn on whether bairstow will just move to number 5

He will play as he’s scored 2 100s in his last 4 tests, really good 100s too

It’s just my view but I’m wondering if Stokes wants him as his keeper, I’d say it’s possible
