Root steps down

I wouldn’t say that about key mate. Let’s wait and see, I don’t think he’s one for giving mates gigs, he’s a mentor to Crawley for sure but more a father figure than someone trying to give them an advantage

Who appoints the captain though, key or the coach?

He was critical but he actually wasn’t as adamant he should go as someone like atherton, he didn’t really offer any alternative

His argument was he would keep Root IF you could get a legend coach who could lead likr Ponting or Fleming

You’re right though the timing can’t be coincidence

Well he’s got the right surname for starters
21. Right arm fast and he’s pretty tall.

I’d like to think the man who is working with him is a major part of the process at the very minimum.
I’m a bit out of the loop on the current coaching candidates. It’s a shame we haven’t had a dominant County side in the set up the last few years where it could be a leading pair ready made.

And he’s just cracked Parkinson with a short one

Thought his captaincy was poor but he's a world class cricketer, one of the best. New captain will have the same issues. Until their is a massive clear out of deadwood and rotten culture within the ECB and coaching then nothing will change. Good luck to Joe Root in the future

Few wickets for Parky

I am a Leach man but he could be worth ago

I just hate twitter bandwagons by people who probably have never seen him play, but I am probably just being awkward for the sake of it in this regard.

I just remember the times when everyone on social media said Burns and thn Sibley "Had to play"

Think it’s time to give Parkinson a go personally, Somerset bowled 79 overs against Essex in their first innings and Leach did not get one ball, surely you would expect the best spinner in the country to at least get a go with nearly a days overs bowled against the opposition?

Granted it must have been a seamer’s wicket but Harmer got 3 of Somerset wickets in their first innings and they only bowled 45 overs.
If Leach was injured it doesn’t scream confidence in him.

Not on that wicket mate, have you seen the scorecard? This is not a blind defence of Leach btw, just somerset ran through them. Harmer is abetter bowler from what I have seen

Its a tricky one, I'd have played Parky with Leach in Barbados and Antigua, and not doing so was a big mistake by Root, and kind of summed up his last year of muddled thinking.

I am torn on this one, I can see the merits. But the reality is Leach hasnt played in England in 2019, and he did well then averaged 25 in the Ashes

I cant help thinking this is not a real problem in the side, dont we just need a solid spinner where we can rotate the quicks?

Aye 79 overs is a lot of overs, nearly a days play and not one ball, Essex bowled 45 and Somerset were 109 all out yet Harmer got 3 wickets.

Personally I want to us ( perfect world I know) to look for a spinner to take wickets rather than just look to tie down one end to rotate quicks.

Of course get that’s easy said than done.

I probably didn’t explain my point well, leach will take wickets in my view. He did in Barbados, not at a quick rate as it was a poor pitch

Leach will take wickets in England in my option I think he’s a good bowler

He hasn’t played in England in 2 years so I dunno what people are judging him on, you know what I mean?

Parkinson absolutely should have played in Barbados like

I like root and think he was a decent enough captain, but picking Overton n Woakes over a slightly risky option for me showed his time was up

I’m just reluctant to jump on the bandwagon as o think leach is a good bowler who gets good players out

I liked Root and on the whole he did a good job but get a team that scores 400 first up more times than not and i'll show you a good captain. He made mistakes but often when chasing the game due to the team not being good enough. Still change now is the right thing. Good luck to whoever gets it.

All about opinions mate, but I am not keen on Leach don’t think he is the answer but just my opinion.

Depends on your definition don’t think the England set up fancy him who see him at close quarters.

Don’t think he worries the opposition and see him as a defensive bowler.

The only evidence we have is the ashes on 2019 and he did pretty well in my opinion anyway

I think he’s been defensive on the flattest pitches imaginable but not on your standard English wicket which offers just enough

I just think bd bit unfair for someone to leapfrog him in England when he’s never had a chance due to poor management

Well that’s the debate is it poor management or is it the fact they simply don’t fancy him
