Root steps down

If it’s stokes you can guarantee he’ll average less than 20 with the bat, over 30 with the ball and need a break again as the pressure must be immense.

Root is the only undroppable in the whole team. Personally I’d like it given to a keeper. However Buttler is the worst of the 3 keepers but plays the most, whilst Foakes is the best but only just got into the squad again.

Who knows.

Says it’s right time

Bast last year to 18 months

But had some good moments and won a lot of matches and series

Despite the hyperbole on here

Hyperbole? I remember a certain poster on here describing a West Indies bowler with a test average of 34.5 (Jerome Taylor) as 'world class'. 🙃

He did well at first with senior players helping out but was spectacularly bad when he had to own it himself. Strategically weak, reactive and a bit too soft and 'everyone's mate' to be an effective leader. Also, speculation on my part, but I get the feeling he fell out with Broad and Anderson which is kind of fatal when they're your best bowlers, by some distance.

We need an experienced player who is strategically strong and commands respect, I can only really think Broad from the central contract lot, unless they bring back someone like Vince or Burns, who you barely deserve selection on batting and aren't exactly Brierley standard to make up for it.

it's fair enough root stepping down, but it's left us in a worse position imo
They need to change central contracts and fixtures set up so players are getting more experience of leading in CC. Watch them do summat daft like give it to Lees.

experience in captaining a side is crucial. best possible solution must be less county sides playing less matches per season

Nope incorrect

2 batsman averaged overt 35

The results he got were Unbelievable

List 1 home series in his whole captaincy

6 away wins in Asia in a row

Stuffed South Africa away who then beat India

It’s amazing how people just dismiss these things and take them for granted

Will hopefully be good for him to be able to just concentrate on his batting and part-time bowling.

At 31 he’s still got a lot of years ahead of him

lad i was chatting with at glamorgan was telling us (i don't listen to it but always meant to) on that tailenders podcast anderson was asked about the captaincy thing. i'm never that into a bowler as a captain but i don't think he'd have been a bad shout at all. too late now obviously
Jimmy Anderson is a bit of an introvert though. Broad isn't. He's also got that Jardine self confidence arrogance thing.
