Why is it controversial?

Research has suggested that women express emotions more frequently than men on average. Multiple researchers have found that women cry more frequently, and for longer durations than men at similar ages

Why is it always about crying. That is only 1 expression of emotion you know.

Men and woman are found to experience anger as frequently as each other. Men are more likely to act with aggressive outbursts as a result. Guess it depends which emotion you’re deciding to judge on

What has actually been found is that men and women generally are as emotional as each other. They express different emotions more publicly than each other.

Do I see more women crying in football or more expressed anger by men. Only anecdotal but it’s the latter for me

Bit of a generalisation. There are women who are not emotional at all and plenty men who bubble up at the slightest pressure. As a whole that might be the case, but it’s a very inappropriate comment to make on national TV. He will probably get the sack now and rightly so.

I don't know what prompted him to say it but women hockey, rugby and football players I know don't seem to have this problem. Women in mixed hockey seem to be as tough emotionally as their male teammates Given the current controversy perhaps books like 'Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus' should be banned along with phrases like 'man flu' and 'men can't multi-task'. Feel sorry for him but everyone knows you may think it but you can't say it.

It's true but then it is off the men as well. You see this happen loads of times. Look at AC Milan in the CL final v Liverpool, 3 up and in 6 minutes ended up essentially losing the game. Be hundreds of examples just like this.

A sweeping remark like that on national tv is damaging for all women in sport and adds nothing to the conversation. He may as well have said “I wish I were coaching a mens team”
