Booing prior to the kick off.

Last year people were booing because it was symbol of the BLM who are Marxist and anti-establishment political group.

Now they are booing because it's hypocritical.

The truth is it's none of the above.
So the same as the players who said it was for BLM and even wore BLM on their shirts for three games. Who then decided BLM wasn’t a good idea and changed their purpose to something else not even they really agree on now, as many clubs, players don’t participate. The whole thing is a mess.

They’re certainly doing sweet fcuk all to end social injustice by going to Qatar for the most hideous World Cup in history.

Keep saying it but nearly 7,000 abused migrant workers have died building the stadia, most of which are getting pulled down after the tournament ends. Add to that an abhorrent human rights record and a medieval outlook on many issues in 2022, you have to laugh in absolute irony at the hypocrisy of it all. Just a sad joke.

Totally agree, be interesting and quite ludicrous at the same time if players continue taking the knee at this WC specifically.

The players, FAs & indeed politicians could send a far stronger statement by not participating.

Problem is, they’ll participate, continue with their faux outage and carry on pretending to care about injustice.

I won’t be watching even if England win the thing.

I don’t boo, but can you not see it being extremely hypocritical?

Gareth said he couldn’t see what a boycott would achieve meanwhile he thinks 11 blokes on one knee does achieve something. They’re all idiots

Black Lives Matter is a slogan. It's also a Marxist political group. The lines became blurred and the BLM slogan was dropped. But yet people still drag it up.

The whole thing isn't a mess. Some clubs do it and some don't.

It's really the choice of the clubs and the players. I think it has ran out of steam and lost it's impact. The FA are and always have been hypocrites.

But it's the booing that's the issue here. It makes all of us look like backward Tommy Robinson supporters.

How? Because the London Elite say so?

There are many different options to a boycott and he knows it.

He chose boycott because it suits his agenda.

I don’t really think that’s the case. Also, I really don’t care what people from outside of the area think of Sunderland (the north east in general)

The political elite and stuck up tossers from the south always give us a bad rep anyway.

I love living here, the people are fantastic (I travel all over the UK work) so not really concerned about what the perception may or may not be.

If a minority booing a token gesture at a football match, let’s people brand all Sunderland supporters racists, then I don’t really care what they think. They are as much of an issue as those booing.

The London Elite are the ones that drive the narrative of booing the knee equals Tommy Robinson levels. It just doesn’t.
People who don't take the knee because it's hypocritical is different from booing it. Black players don't take the knee.

I don't know anyone who boos it for being hypocritical. A lot of people have said that on here. But booing it does make you like a racist.

If he was a man who believes in diversity and equal rights he wouldn’t lead them out in this World Cup if he stood by his principles.

Says one thing but condones it by going anyway, virtue signaling at its very worst.

I seriously miss the days when football was just about going to the match with family and friends.

The geo political nature of the game due to state ownership, the vast sums of money / corruption involved as absolutely destroyed it 😞

As you say, Southgate, the players and the FA could make a real statement and difference by sticking 2 fingers up and not going to Qatar.

Same with the Premier League and the mags takeover (although that ship has sailed) The game we love is fucked.
