Class Pre-Season memories

Got loads but just read about our bond with Man City years ago on another thread. Reminded me of Ian Brightwell’s testimonial.

That was a fun afternoon as fans sung about Jamie Pollock.

Who was there?? Remember a canny turnout and a bin used as a drum.
Went to this one.
Tommy sorensons first game (or the first time I'd seen him iirc).
Met up with a few man city lads and had a great day.
Decided that night to drive down to torquay for Plymouth away a few days later and had a couple of good days on the piss in torquay.
Love spontaneous stuff like that when you're young which seems to happen less and less as you get on in life .

Did Friendlies for a few years after that.
Calais was a good one, and antwerp where we got a taxi to the wrong ground and wound up with a big plastic frog in the ground.

Denmark 1999 thought about going until I found out that I had spent a year and half travel back and forth to Ireland with an out of date passport.

No, they equalised.
Absolute bedlam that day esp considering crowd 11000 and 1000 mags

We did the Hearts/Hibs but cudnt do Dundee and Berwick as had wisdom teeth op.
Crackin sunny weekend. Four of us inc JB, camped at Dalkeith.

West coast Canada and USA in 2005 ending up in Portland. Crap football but we had Tommy J.
Great trip that .travelled down on the bus to Seattle after the Vancouver game then train to Portland for the last game.It was weird having to get your baggage checked in before boarding both bus and trains.Went to 2 of the games on the east coast,Charleston Battery and Wilmington Hammerheads

Hitch hiked there with a lad called Bob Ethridge, better known as Eccles (@Vauxie will remember him) sadly no longer with us. We had about a tenner between us and that was only because I rifled my mam's phone box and Bob sold his dad's watch . For reasons unbeknown to me we went via Edinburgh and Glasgow and it took us best part of two days, including a ride on a hay laden tractor. We got there in time though and blagged a lift on the supporters coach coming back. Happy days.

Edit.. August 4th 1971 we drew 1-1 7k attendance.
RE: Eccles: There's a blast from the past, I remember a lad called that larking about at Seaburn train station around that time when some Sheff Wed were travelling into S'land, Wonder if it's the same lad? My older bro in law knew him from away games.

Great weekend that,Hibs ground was a bit spartan then ,we stood on that muckle big side terracing.
It was indeed, saw my first stripper at some pub in Rose St before the Saturday game. Seem to remember around 300 at Hearts and slightly less at Hibs. A group of us went on to that big side terrace, it seemed to be their end, and before it kicked off, police quickly rounded us up and led us around the pitch to behind the goal where the rest of the Sunderland were. Both grounds unrecognisable now from those days.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Isle of Man tournaments early 80's. Proper wrecking sessions.
First one v St Mirren ,sailed from Liverpool Isle of man steam packet company.Burnley ,St Mirren and Isle of Man select the yr after got pulled over as I got off the boat from Heysham by the police on suspicion of being a suspected Irish terrorist.Kept in custody for an hr while they did a full check on back ground,They checked which hotel I was staying in,got my gaffer out of bed to go and verify my last shift that I worked also sent someone round to my neighbours to check I was genuine.I told the officials that had I been a Irish terrorist I'd have got off the boat from Dublin not Heysham.
