This is some next level batshittery.

Me and the missus saw what was happening at the start of the pandemic, how it affected the overweight way more than other people and thought “shit we should do something” and we took the chance to lose loads of weight.

This person seems to have seen it as a chance to do fuck all about her weight and instead of getting healthier just…did nothing.

Being overweight or obese isn’t about being “body confident” it’s about being massively at risk from almost every preventable disease there is.

Why looks like that are given a platform is beyond belief.

Fat people are given worse medical care? What is the basis for that statement? Do newspapers not fact check their columns?
I understand it’s their job to advise based on guidelines but the last check up I had the nurse was giving me diet and excercise.

I’m 6’2” and about 15 clem. Pretty active and exercise 3-5 times a week. Got an alright diet but could probably reign the pints on a weekend in a bit.

She was about 5 foot and definitely weighed more than me. Looked like she’d struggle with a set of stairs and cry if there was anything green on her plate. It made me laugh anyway.

You are overweight tbf, is she supposed to say nowt because she is overweight?

He is spot on.

The fix is for people to take personal responsibility or be fat and happy.
Personal responsibility has never worked hence the need for things like laws telling people to put a seatbelt on and not to drive after 8 pints

You need to literally stand over some people and make them do something

On the other hand, it's literally impossible to have truly healthy food delivered to your door.
It’s not like.

Deliveroo in London is absolutely packed with companies doing healthy food. Proper healthy food.

I use them pretty regularly when I’m particularly busy

The explosion in Obesity and T2d is a result of the 'food triangle' being laid out as high carb/protein/low fat in the 50's.
Sadly for me I was obese and T2d until i reversed the 'food triangle' into a high fat/protein/low carb - low carb as in no more than 20 net carbs per day. Along came Ketosis and off came 5 stone and reversed T2d.
The advice a doctor or nutritionist will give will be from the high carb/protein/low fat (5 a day!) It's laid down that this is the only advice they will give. What would happen if a person with T2d was told to follow a Ketogenic diet? I had it for 8 years and it only got worse - never better. 12months of low carb and I'd reversed it. I now cost the NHS absolutely nothing. No more metformin, gliclazide or atorvastatin. 8 tablets a day to none.

I got the kick up the arse a few weeks ago when I went for routine checkup just to be told I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high blood sugar (prediabetes) and overweight. No medication yet as she wants to see what I can get under control by lifestyle changes. None of this surprised me and I had already started to lose weight since the New Year but it was the prod I needed to take it seriously this time and not give up after a few weeks like I usually do.

I'm currently reading Mosley's Blood Sugar Diet book (The 8-Week Blood Sugar Diet: Lose weight fast and reprogramme your body: Lose weight and reprogramme your body: Amazon.co.uk: Michael Mosley: 9781780722405: Books) and it is making a compelling case.

Fat Fiction and The Magic Pill were worthy of watching. (youtube)

What specific foods did you cut out and what did you replace them with?

I am a great believer in the whole food meat based lifestyle, trying to go back to a full carnivore diet, its the best I have ever felt was when i did that, just a shame its so costly to do atm.

Cut out Rice, Bread, Pasta and potatoes. I don't replace them with anything. I eat plenty veg that grows above ground. Eliminate vegetable oils and use olive oil and butter mainly. I also intermittent fast 16/8 mainly. For lunch today I had a 3 egg ham and cheese omelette. For tea i had pork with a medley of veg ( I choose two from - cauli, broccoli, cabbbage, sprouts) No milk - double cream only.

I can understand someone walking past a McDonald's, feeling peckish, and popping in (I've done it myself) but I can't get my head around someone ordering a delivery from them.
Me neither but you now have a situation where a person sitting at work with zero willpower just randomly orders a bag full from them mid morning
He can afford it and he's an adult ,bosh !

I'm living proof (there are many others) that the opposite can be/is true. The foods you mention are all part of the 'food triangle' everey doctor/nutritionist will advise you eat. The vicious circle is trying to cure T2d eating the high carb foods you mention.

Do you think people in the North East or in poverty stricken areas can afford deliveroo meals?

Never uses them but how much does it cost per meal?

It's quite worrying when you look at the NHS staff too. I'd say at least half of Ambulance service staff are an unhealthy weight and its at least that percentage on the wards. Seemingly, working in health and being reminded daily about the outcomes of unhealthy living doesn't stop health workers falling into the same trap.

There's more to it than simply "getting the message across" imo.
NHS staff are stressed to death most probably so drink and eat to excess on their days off.

We all need a rethink around capitalism and the way society functions, the problem is that the people at the top of society don't want that to happen, money is power in our world and anyone with it doesn't want to part with it.

Opposite? Sound like we're saying the same thing?

I'd disagree on both your points unfortunately marra. NHS staff have been like this for years, well before the pandemic. In essence they're no different to the average man/woman in the street, my point being they see directly the outcomes for poor health choices yet its not enough to make them stop overeating, smoking and drinking.

As regards a reset for Capitalism, I'd agree on one level but simply having more money doesn't equate to making better choices around food etc otherwise we wouldn't see so many fat MP's, businessmen etc. We place far too much emphasis on acquiring stuff and not nearly enough on maintaining good health. At the end of the day that expensive watch or car won't compensate for losing your mobility in older age.

As I said in an earlier post it is different if you live in a bigger/wealthier city. Last year I spent a week in Edinburgh and because of Sturgeon's COVID restrictions it wasn't much fun going out so I got a few evening meals delivered and the choice and quality was amazing. If I go onto Deliveroo from where live it's just the usual choice of pizzas, curries (good but not especially healthy) and fried things

Whole cultures have eaten these for years and not had obesity problems. However, when we put a modern twist on these in terms of portion size and other ingredients we see the problems emerge. Rice with Tikka Masala, Potatoes as Chips or crisps, Pasta in convenience sauces.

Should do something about companies pumping whats seemingly normal food full of salt and sugar, but in terms of fast food - everyone knows that they're bad for you, if you eat too much then you're an idiot.
