County Cricket 2022

Some interesting names in the Uni team.Tom Westley , England and Essex .Jamie Atkinson son of Durham Minor Counties legend Steve ,who played in the 1973 Yorkshire win. Luke Blackaby who played in the TSL for Lanchester during his Uni studies
And Shaan Masood who opened the batting for Pakistan and I think got a double hundred against England on their last tour here.

Being the cricket tragic that I am, I always enjoy looking back at University scorecards from previous years to see who made it and who had decent careers in the game.

Some excellent eve of the season reading there, thank you. Noticeably not a squeak from either the Newcastle Journal or Chronicle. Is either paper aware that there is a game called cricket alive and flourishing in the area?

Unfortunately not. Since Stu Rayner left them it doesn’t appear that they’ve ever even tried to fill that void.

That’s a bigger problem and wider problem with the press full stop regarding cricket.

Football has become far to big in this country and it’s all the sporting press both locally and nationally want to talk about.

Even in the summer it happens, years ago they used to be this divide football was our main sport talked about in the winter and cricket in the summer.

Now it’s football football and a bit more football sad if you ask me.

Oh and here’s a paywall bypass that will allow people to read the cricketer articles ;)

Particularly enjoyed the season preview in the cricketer, it’s clear that a lot of research has gone into it - the only downside being that the author hasn’t realised that Jack Burnham is no longer at the club…
