Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

No other thread needed. Made my point. Back to really important stuff.

Has anyone called Putin a **** today?
Not sure you have made any point mate

The context was that Russian money is not coming into private schools. You then took umbrage and told us how well you had done for yourself and had helped your kids get on in life

A few post above yours is a young Ukrainian girl singing in a bomb shelter to keep spirits up.

Glad you and your family have done well though

Is there a reason for the decline of the Russian population? I’ve read a few things over the years about this, but not seen any reason given?
Vodka kills 100% of the population over time.

Street drugs increase that to 200%.

Its a wonder there's anybody except trained chimps at the helm...

Has this been posted yet? 3 Russian police tell how they were ordered in Ukraine to support invasion troops and captured. Decent listen

It’ll start as a trickle , but as more injured and dead return to Russia it’ll hopefully turn into a cascade of truth to the Russian people.

He was exposed to a world that he would never have experienced at a state school. He mixed with people he would never have met in the state system. He has had experiences funded by the school that I could never have dreamed of as a kid.
And he had the qualifications to join the Royal Navy as an Officer candidate, but chose to join as a Rating, to experience the whole gambit, making him a more experienced officer.
Nonesense, why would he want to do that and be behind others of his age group once commissioned.

I don’t usually get involved in political shit because it brings out the chair rockers but applying for fuck sake let them in because the fact is they want safety they will be home once they have a chance! They have had their home taken away from them.

40 hail hitlers

ive Just been watching the BBC news channel showing people, old people disabled people people on crutches you name it a complete cross section of society struggling to escape from areas being indiscriminately shelled. One old fellow was being carried very ungainly up a roadside banking cos he was unable to get up of his own accord, when I say ungainly 4 guys had a limb each and that’s how he was dragged up the bank

i have a lot of sympathy with the plight of those who’ve reached say Poland and how and where they are accommodated but they are safe and it’s those who haven’t managed to escape or just can’t who we should be trying to help.

i don’t know what can be done but at the moment nothing seems to be happening and it this lack of action doesn’t seem to being discussed

Right.
I'm from Hetton. Dad was down the pit. Mam was a cleaner. I joined the Royal Navy. Did 10 years. Came out and made a life for myself and my family.
My son and eldest daughter went to Public School on the back of the f***ing hard work me and my wife did.
He is now a Commander in the Royal Navy, having started as an ordinary rating, and my Daughter is successful in her chosen career.
The inverted f***ing snobbery around this is f***ing deplorable.
Get your head out of your arse, and stop repeating the ignorant shite you've been f***ing spoonfed, and at least make an educated assessment before you show your entrenched, 19th century, bigotted views.
Of all the problems this war is creating, private schools losing out on Russian funding is way down the list.
If there's a funding crisis then they should just charge more.

I was brought up in the back streets of a Durham pit village. Me dad worked for the NCB. Me mam worked in a care home. I’ve done well for meself. My children have degrees and now they all have their own businesses. All on the back of hard work and state education.

As a working class lad I would never send my kids to public school and neither would my children send our grand kids.

It’s not inverted snobbery. It’s principles. Nobody should get an advantage because they can afford to pay for it.

The owlder fella is very eloquent. Powerful stuff.

He is, which makes me wonder if the speech is either orchestrated or he is playing to an audience.
The competence on display isn’t aligned with someone who has been easily deceived.
I’m not saying what he portrays isn’t correct, but he does need to be selective in relation to what story he puts forward.

That said, it comes across as generally honest and hopefully this sentiment makes its way back to the motherland and others listen.

I was torn listening to him but it sounded from the heart rather than scripted, just the tone of his voice and his body language.

Quite astonishing that he seems to have no prior knowledge of the Ukrainian government though. You'd think they'd possess a passive understanding of the culture of their geographical neighbours. This Nazi bollocks is laughably implausible to us half a world away, but has been accepted at face value by seemingly intelligent people over there.

If your son worked his way up from an ordinary rating to a Commander in the Royal Navy, it sounds like he's bright enough to have done this with a state education.

What point are you making?

Undoubtedly. However the connections that can be made at public school are much more important than the education gained.

The jobs held by many of the MPs sitting in the House of Commons are an example of what can be achieved by knowing the right people.
