Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

No, we support the general populace. It’s the right thing to do. And it will expose Putin even more so.

Still challenges to overcome, but the mechanisms are in place. We are unbelievably fortunate that the Russian army is failing as much as it is otherwise we would have had to step in using other means.
The Ruski army is only part failing.

Their strategic objectives are unclear but we can assume the following:

1. Secure the coast.
2. Topple Kiev.
3. Control the country

I don't suppose they give a fanny fart about the rest of Ukraine but if they can deprive them of access to the black sea they can claim the oil, gas and other mineral wealth for themselves.

Most importantly, they deprive the Ukrainians of the opportunity to cut the Ruskis out of that market.

If they continue to make progress in the south they may sue for peace and hold the key areas.

Depressing isn’t it?
Hate this like.

Exactly why the likes of North Korea Iran etc should be prevented from developing nuclear weapons
Truth be known it was Iran that was behind, and started all the problems in Yemen in the beginning, by backing the Houthis with money and arms to obliterate the government and provoke and attack neighbouring countries.
But like China, they stand in the shadows loading the gun whilst others fire it and suffer from it.

The Observer reports that the Ukrainians are claiming that 11,000 Russian troops have been killed since the invasion began. I know that we have to be very very cautious about the accuracy of such a figure but even if the number of those killed is only half that amount it has to be compared with the loss of 15,000 (then) Soviet troops over a 10 year period in Afghanistan. That was considered to be a national disaster and those Soviet forces were drawn from all over the USSR not just Russia as they are today.

If the Ukranian claim is not ridiculously exagerated and Putin insists that this war goes on he is going to have very serious problems with his military leaders. I expect that the Western inlelligence services have a more accurate picture of what Russian losses are even if they don't have a precise figure. I doubt however that they would make their view known if it condradicted what the Ukranians were saying.

The Iraeli PM is going to Berlin now, not London! He is seeing German Chancellor, would indicate that we are not leading as our PM keeps telling us.

We've been in Ukraine for yonks training their military for this attack - and ours and the US intelligence told everyone it was coming

Our economy is twice the size of Russia's - we're still a huge player on the global stage

I will however give credit to the EU and Ursula von de Leyen - they've been f***ing awesome during this crisis

It's not going well for Putin is it?

He's being made to look like a fool - which could be very dangerous
