Really everyone should get rid of them. The historical situation is we have them unfortunately, and unless all parties get rid of them no one will. Imagine now if the west had binned them but Russia hadn’t.

One would also argue that quite simply democratic countries like the UK pose much less of a threat than dictatorships like North Korea. Our nuclear weapons could be said to be protecting the whole world from countries like North Korea going on a global bombing spree.

Your argument is a race to the bottom. Imagine saying “our neighbours have beaten their own kids up so why can’t we.”

Adding more nuclear weapons to the world is not the answer. Removing them is. But the more threatening countries have to do it as well as just us.
