There are planes out there because of the on-going op in Syria (Op SHADER), they always rotate them every couple of months, nothing unusual in that.

I very much doubt we'll be enforcing any form of no fly zone over Ukraine, if that happens its literally war with Russia and that will go nuclear very quickly. There will never (or should never) be a "no-fly" zone enforced by NATO over a non-NATO country that is currently in conflict with a nuclear power. It would lead to war between nuclear powers. It can NEVER happen

He might not be Hitler Mk2 yet, but he’s invaded Ukraine twice, has no regard for human life, not even Russian lives, has basically legalised homophobia in Russia, has threatened Finland and Sweden with nukes if they join NATO, suppresses dissent and free speech, censors the media and so on.

Hitler was pure evil, but at least in the beginning was an intelligent leader with a plan. When he knew it was over, he ended his life. Putin is acting like a madman, and he has the ability to start WW3. I think he’s psychotic enough to do it.

At some point he has to be stopped. If he isn’t, then he will try to push further west, imo. We have to hope and pray that there’s a coup or someone takes him out. The only problem there is whoever takes power could be even worse.
 
I wouldn’t get too excited about the plane from St Petersburg to the US. Rather then taking a diplomatic group for talks probably more likely it’s bringing back non essential embassy staff. I’m sure they said they were reducing numbers

The fact that plenty of people who that order would need to pass through, probably don’t want to condemn their kids and grand kids to a nuclear death.

Also, the fact that for all Putin’s sabre ratting bollocks and threats - E.g. “any one who sends weapons to Ukraine which are used to kill Russians, will be treated as having fired those weapons”, “sanctions will be looked upon as an act of war”, and now “the U.K. will be very sorry etc etc” - he’s done the square root of fuck all.

He’s scared of war with the West. If he wasn’t, then Ukraine joining NATO would be of no relevance whatsoever would it? He wouldn’t have batted an eyelid.

What time period do those numbers cover? - It’s not annual, as USA spent 811.Bn in 2021, 3.8% of GDP. Total NATO contributions, by all members, for 2021 was 1.2 Tn
Per GDP, Greece is the highest contributor.

I hope you’re right, Sweeper. I don’t share your confidence, though. Putin is losing credibility every day that the Ukrainians kick the crap out of his army. I can’t see him standing down looking like a loser, or being prepared to face charges if his own people turn on him. I think he’d rather go out with a, well… bang, tbh.

I just hope that he doesn’t literally have access to the nuclear button, and that his generals refuse to launch nukes.
Naive, perhaps, but surely army top brass would realise they’d be creating an utterly pointless, potential extinction level event.

He's using NATO as a convenient excuse, its always been about them joining the EU.

The orange revolution that happened and overthrew his stooge was caused by said stooge not signing the agreement to have closer ties with the EU.

In addition the significant amounts of Fossil Fuels recently discovered in Ukraine would have meant less reliance on Russia for their natural resources, and competition which would take money out of his, and his oligarch supporters, pockets. He couldnt have that either so he invaded and reckoned the west wouldnt care or react. He massively miscalculated when they did and now hes stuck. He wont stop till either hes taken out of power (by whatever means necessary) or they win and Kiev falls and capitulates. Nothing else will do

US approves Moscow-chartered flight to remove expelled Russian diplomats
The US has approved a flight chartered by Moscow to remove Russian diplomats at the United Nations who were expelled for abuse of their privileges of residence, the State Department has announced.

A spokesperson said: "This special exception was done in accordance with federal regulations to ensure Russian mission personnel and their families departed by the date we had instructed."

Make no mistake...if he thinks he could get away with it he'd return Russia back to the USSR and claim back all those countries.....thankfully he does not have the military capability in a conventional land war against nato...

He has to see nato as a threat to Russia so do his generals and military, he can’t just press it fortunately. I know it’s still a dodgy situation to be in but there is some steps to stop the man. It’s still a situation I hope we don’t have to test.
