I think the opposite mate. It should never have been on the politics forum in the first place. None of this is about politics - Russia has none and Putin will be the President until he leaves this mortal coil. This is simply about right and wrong.
of course it's about politics.
as with most threads on a subject with many strands the discussion broadens.
one of those strands is Russia's interference in the politics of other countries.
surprised the subject hasn't got it's own thread.

Ukrainian media report that a member of Ukrainian delegation at Gomel peace talks, Denys Kireyev, was killed by SBU as security agents tried to capture him on suspicion of high treason. He is reportedly linked to elements in the ex-president Yanukovych’s government.
Well that'll be reassuring for any other Ukrainian delegates attending future peace talks then

Polite reminder #1769

This is a news thread and it's on SMB specifically because of its general interest, so please could we all dial back the political bickering.

The management are not wanting to stifle political debate, far from it, but there's a time and place and this thread is neither.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Shot down an SU30. 102 million dollars per plane. Cheap by fighter jet standards but still
For those who didn't know, like me, the SU30 is one of these and this is what I've just found looking on Tw@tter

Russia has no politics. This is one man's crusade to reverse the fall of the USSR.
Politicians can talk politics til they are blue in the face but you can't turn a man like Putin when his mind is set. He has been President or Prime Minister for 22 years, politics don't exist in Russia or any other country when a Dictator is in situe.
This only ends when he is either ousted by the Russian people and military (unlikely) or dies.
THEN, it becomes about politics and, hopefully reasonable people being able to reach agreement

Just read about WW2 man.

The Germans came within a whisker of smashing them to #### with far far fewer men and machines to call on.
Only winter coming 2/3 weeks earlier than normal saved Moscow from being taken.
All the other major battles afterwards just saw Russia throwing men and machines pell mell at the Germans like at Kursk, and eventually, having much larger reserves of men and machinery told.

everyone should read up on WW2, just probably not the books that you seem to be reading

the germans took vast swathes of land, something that Russia had plenty of - german strategy was deeply flawed, they expected to kick the front door in and watch the whole thing come crashing down

Winter coming early actually helped the Germans, as the autumn mud season was shortened - they were never gonna get any further though as they were at the end of an overstretched logistical trail (making it to the outskirts of a nation's capital does'nt win instant win - something that should be pretty obvious based on current events)

the major battles after that eventually honed the Red Army into the most effective ground force of its time
