Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

I have to disagree strongly here.

If you invoke a no fly zone you then have two options. You either ignore any Russian jets going into the no fly zone and show weakness giving Putin further encouragement, or have to shoot them down and give Putin reason to attack other countries or commit even worse atrocities in Ukraine. Keeping a low profile and quietly providing Ukraine with arms and intelligence to grind out a slow victory is by far the lesser of two evils.
This sadly is the case

That’s your opinion, though. You can’t make decisions with such humongous consequences based on thinking it probably wouldn’t happen.
That other side of this is your opinion and the reasoning has been thought about by nato or they wouldn’t be mentioning it within their
Meetings it’s all what ifs and buts right now to be honest.

He has a puffy face and has been linked to using steroids. ? What is wrong
Cos on a board where there has been incipient homophobia on and off for years and at time when we are all facing the most challenging times since the 2nd world war and the LGBT community in Russia is under greater threat than it was here in the 80s to come up with the slime ball nickname ' Puffkin' is a step back perhaps?

Ooof. That's a big bet mind. "pure hot air"?

Win & you snuff out the Ukrainian conflict.

Lose & you end everything.

Letting him continue to take whatever he wants, in the hope he’ll eventually just stop (because you know, deep down he’s a nice guy?), is the “big bet”. If he was genuinely willing to push the nuclear button, and we were going to give him carte blanche “on the off chance”, we might as well just pack in now and offer up the whole of Europe.

There’s a big grey area between those two extremes mind

Then you cross that bridge if you get to it.

But why would he launch an attack on another country given he is nowhere near achieving his first objective? You generally want to make your decisions based on likelihood of events happening or not happening. In my opinion an attack on another country without provocation seems extremely unlikely.
And my opinion a nuclear war seems unlikely but like I say I hope
It’s something they never have to make a decision on,

He hasn't got the resources to do anything.

Intel from Finland shows that bases near the border that had good quality forces in have been replaced by kids. Good troops are either in Russia intimidating Russians or in Ukraine.

That's my point. That Chinese writer Sun Tzi (?) said "never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake".

They're f***ing it up. Yes it's awful in Ukraine but escalation helps them not one bit. They might even get nuked.

Plenty died in sectarian war before they left. There’s no way Iraq should ever should have been invaded but massive stretch to say America killer them all.
I didn’t suggest that. I’m suggesting that we supported a similar war in Iraq

we went to war with them. This is what we were told. The majority of this country supported going into iraq.

Look at the f***ing state of what we were being told.

the people of Russia are in exactly the same position now. Why shouldn’t they feel the way we did. We live in a horrible world. Condoleeza Rice said this

So we what, just keep walking backwards until he’s on our doorstep - and then give him the keys?

I’m struggling to understand what you’re basing this scenario on.

History mate. Russia is.one of very few that stood with India over Bangladesh/East Pakistan. Britian/USA etc sided with Pakistan and they havnt forgotten. Plus the Indian armed forces are pretty much equipped with Russian gear.

Yeah and India abstained the other day at the UN.

There was an Indian Air Force transport plane heading in the direction of Southern Russia the other day and then turned off its transponder. Could be absolutely nothing of course but it was the same time as I was checking out those hashtags

Putin has suffered heavy losses in a week, has a 40 mile long military convoy stranded with no fuel, has his own forces accidentally shooting each other up, an has made 20% of the progress in nine days that he expected in 24 hours.

We continue to grossly over-state the danger of Russias military; and I simply don’t think the nuclear option is even on the table for him. If he tried to give that order he’d be ousted by his own military.

He was full of bombastic tough talk about the west a week ago - don’t sanction us or else, don’t send weapons to Ukraine or else. Pure hot air.

There is an enormous difference between a NATO country directly shooting down a Russian jet compared with providing Ukraine with the weaponry to take out that same jet. That is the key point that you need to understand.

Who said let him have what he wants?
