Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Thought you had quit the thread and Board?

Or have you come back to blame NATO for Russia bombing a nuclear power plant and trying to smash and starve Mariupol to death?

Tough choice between the former and the latter
Of course it is different.

All the recent ‘American conflicts’ have occurred when there is already a regional threat or fighting or civil war going on.

Saddam was gassing Kurds. Serbs were ethnically cleansing Bosnians. Gadaffi was killing opponents.

They were not unprovoked invasions of a sovereign nation.

Honestly if I read about NATOs “eastward imperialist expansion” one more time I’m ready to report it as Russian propaganda. Literally what we are seeing right now is Russia undertaking westward imperialist expansion, with Putin’s puppet in Belarus, the threatening of Finland to not join NATO, to Ukraine being destroyed so a puppet government can be installed, to the Russians in Transnistria just waiting to be summoned to probably attack Moldova. It’s f***ing weird how countries that have been subject to Russian abuse in the past are scrambling to join the EU and NATO now! Russia still denies the Holodomor occurred, they’ve already starved millions of Ukrainians to death before and one would have to be scrambled in the brain to not see that they’ll happily do it again.

But that’s the problem really. Apart from Moldova he has no where else to go now without it being an escalation with NATO.

He is 70. This is the beginning of the end for him anyway. He has clearly an immense hatred for the West and NATOs eastward expansion and his apparent vision for Russia of recreating the Tsarist empire has gone. He is also either unhinged or portraying being unhinged.

He may feel he has nothing left to lose and with the threat of nuclear weapons behind him feel emboldened enough to challenge NATO in the Baltic’s. Effectively saying what you going to do about it?

All of the arguments for not challenging in Ukraine still exist and the potential repercussions don’t change

A little sensationalism from Beth there saying it was shelling of the nuclear power station as have a few other places. There were rumours that they had chased the Ukraine soldiers (or possibly people protecting it as there's a security entrance just ahead of where the Russians were parked) into the training building that isn't really close to the reactors themselves. I posted a few bits of info last night and thankfully very few people have been suckered in by it on here, unlike people on Tw@tter.

The location

Which is all great if shells never ever go astray by the odd 100m when the Russian Army are lobbing them about. Back in the real world it is a massive fuckin risk.

As I've been pointing out for a while on here Russia is a commodity super state. Its frightening just how much of the world's commodities Russia has under its control. Hydrocarbons, grains and metals. China will take all he has to sell if he decides to throttle supply to the West.

China are struggling financially too. They only have the capacity to buy so much gas an oil.

Give it another week or two and China will be forced to take a position on this and I can't see them siding with Putin. They cannot afford a worldwide economic downturn

@Hugh Gains is taking the piss. He is falsely equating the US intervening against tyrants and war criminals with an unprovoked invasion of a sovereign nation.

If the US invaded Russia to remove an oppressive despot who kills his own people then that would be a closer comparison to the Gulf wars and Afghanistan etc.
I just mean his statement about them being as bad.

From the apartment bombings to Anna Politkovskaya. You’d need years to read about all of what Vlad has been up to.

Whatever happens I hope we make clear that the sanctions will never end as long as he remains in power and Russia is on the aggressive front. Make it clear his country will wither from now on, regardless of how this pans out.
Exactly, we can not reward anyone who doesn’t care about attacking a nuclear power plant and has threatened nuclear war if he doesn’t get his way.

Not so sure myself. China has been stocking up massively on things like (believe it or not) US soy. They knew this was coming imo.
The only truth is the Kremlin comrade.

Massive implications for any Western based journalists in Russia though.

I agree though did you see the video of the attack? They were firing from the street towards the training building and behind that seems to be just waste land. Aye it's certainly still a danger in some way but it's being sensationalised with the words "attack on Nuclear Plant" for obvious reasons but then it causes people to see the attention grabbing headlines and causes a bit more concern that it should.

My post was to show that thankfully it wasn't as bad as the MSM or people on Tw@tter etc are making out and more to do with taking control of the plant, rather than destroy it so people reading here don't worry as much about it today.

This was the overhead image and the Russians were above the yellow pin in the middle of blue rectangle firing to where the fire was. It has been confirmed that 2 security personel were injured so maybe the security team took cover from the security gate on the road into the building.

Well they are getting a little better.

Most Russian journos are just gunned down as they open the door of their apartment.

The irony of threatening to jail anyone who spreads "fake news" about what Russian forces are up to and listening to their Foreign minister yesterday putting Comical Ali to shame.
