Looks like he is not going to risk Kiev , but concentrating on south and east.

No nuclear power plant will ever be the cause of a nuclear explosion.

But there is a lot of radioactive material in them and and external attack could release huge quantities of radioactive material into the environment.

Roughly, there's 1000 times more nuclear fuel in a nuclear reactor than in the Hiroshima bomb.

RT isn't blocked in the UK.
It's blocked in the EU, but the satellite feed to the UK comes through Luxembourg and Luxembourg have stopped the feed to the UK because of the EU sanctions.

Aye I questioned whether what was happening around Kyiv was a bit of a distraction when it was coming up in the news how far Russia had managed to get in the South. But then a lot of that will come down to the fact they've just started bombing the shit out of everything.

I read today that instead of going into Kyiv they'll try to cut the city off from the West so supply lines can't get through from Europe. Then they'll move South to split the country in two. Horrible.

The worry of course being that this shelling that is happening on “admin” buildings could of course be happening on things like pump houses and nitrogen stores.
 
I doubt anything will happen at the Power plant but the fact they are even bombing near it is crazy.

The reactors are highly secure but presume no one ever accounted for a war within the grounds so the command, control and systems are probably more of a risk. But can’t see any major concern

If you look at Figure 3 in this linked document you will see 2 main things.

1) there is a lot of gas under and in the sea off Crimea

2) there is a big gas field running from Donbas in the SE across to the NW and this is precisely where the Russian army are now sitting.

I am sure this is just a coincidence though.

There’s an excellent video posted earlier in the thread which goes into detail about the oil and gas fields and how Russian pipelines run through Ukraine, how Ukraine are relying on shell, etc to come and get at their natural reserves, how Russia don’t want that to happen, etc. Gives a lot of context as to why this invasion maybe happening
