Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

The news is getting worse. Feels really depressing at the minute. Just seems more violent every day. Can’t remember ever feeling this about someone but I really hope Putin dies sharpish. I despise him. Just seen some 80 odd year old Holocaust survivor crying her eyes out as her family are trapped in Kiev. Bastards man.

I realise this is a self absorbed post.
It’s a great honest post and really speaks for most of us on this forum.

This is disingenuous.

I don't see systematic killing of civilians. How is it different to below? Was this sytematic?

Yugoslavia

The NATO bombing killed about 1,000 members of the Yugoslav security forces in addition to between 489 and 528 civilians. It destroyed or damaged bridges, industrial plants, hospitals, schools, cultural monuments, private businesses as well as barracks and military installations.

Seriously, why do you keep quoting Yugoslavia at me? This is the second time now that I’ve asked that question.

At no point have I tried to condone that behaviour.

And no, it isn’t disingenuous whatsoever. It is however, the pot calling the kettle black given that you absolutely DID try and justify what Russia was doing (killing civilians) in our earlier exchange.

Evidence below:

The Ukrainians are embedded in dense areas, it's a cross country war. Find me a war were civilians haven't been collateral damage. It's terrible either way but it's not the indiscriminate killing of civilians.

and

There is a distinguishable difference between 'systematically' murdering civilians and civilians dying in a conflict.

Ukrainian rocket have hit apartment buildings whilst attempting to shoot things down. It's unfortunate and unavoidable.

Did NATO target civilians in Yugoslavia?

A number of people have picked up now on your bizarre stance of trying to defend what everyone else, including 39 seperate countries (who have asked the ICC to investigate, to which they’ve agreed) are now calling war crimes.

Few weeks ago these lads had ordinary jobs and lives now they are jumping out of vans taking out Russian vehicles madness. Brave bastards though.
I know its certainly brave but there’s no reason why that vehicle wasn’t full of Russian bairns who we’ve seen over the last few days who’ve had no choice but to go to a war they had no control over and now have families back in Russia who are now without their kids. I despise Putin almost as much for that as i do for the pain he’s putting Ukrainians through.

You have to see that.

Systematic killing is on par with genocide and hideously insidious war crimes. How are the bombings of Kharkiv and Mariupol different to Baghdad, Libya and Yugoslavia?

How is that even relevant?

I haven’t seen a single poster suggesting those killings were justified. Plenty of people would like to see Blair and Bush infront of a jury at The Hague for example.

Stop deflecting and playing for time and tell us how what Russia is doing is NOT war crimes given that the International Criminal Court have are now investigating.

They're besieging a city are they not? And again how is this different to Libya, Baghdad and Yugoslavia.

You can be anti-Russian whilst at the same time acknowledging this.

Just a pity that you can’t, it increasingly seems.
I would expect a modern army to be attacking military targets, attacking civilian buildings and areas is a war crime is it not ?

Universities, schools and hospitals attacked in the last 48 hours, every time I put that to him he avoids answering directly though.

Odd that.

Those Russian "bairns" are the ones pulling the triggers and pressing the buttons that are killing innocent Ukranians

They can get f*****. All sanctions should stay until Russia voluntarily gives up the nuclear weapons with which it terrorises the world.

They been c**** for long enough.

Excellent point. Sanctions should stay in place long after the situation in Ukraine is over. It needs to be a financial throttling for long enough that they voluntarily hand over their nuclear arsenal. Never again should a situation such as this be allow to take hold of the world.

Sympathy for the families back in Russia but if those Russian kids were not killed they would have been contributing to the invasion so had to be done.
