Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Suppose if a nuke goes off and Johnson is saved in a bunker he's definitely got the qualifications when it comes to re populating the world like.

Agree.

This is why I think lack of intervention in Syria was shameful. The UK and US could have gone in, removed Assad and crushed ISIS before Russia ever got involved. Our Parliament voted to turn our back.

But that’s a different thread topic and distraction from what is happening in Ukraine.
Didn`t ISIS go in BECAUSE we were trying to destabilise Assad. We were "assisting" "the rebels" to bring about regime change but as usual it ends in utter catastrophe. Just like we did in Libya and Iraq?????

it is amazing that abramovich is in a position to sell some of his property portfolio in the uk
johnson has done the oligarchs a favour by giving advance notice that they ‘might’ be sanctioned in the future. They should have been sanctioned immediately

Russia is one of the most unequal countries on earth. It makes the States look like Denmark. The top 500 oligarchs own 99.8% of all wealth in the country. Of which about 60% is offshore. That's 60% of all Russian wealth offshore.

Without the UK, South of France, etc. putting in sanctions to their houses, private schools for their kids, cars, etc. we're really only hurting normal society. In fact, at the moment once this is all over the Russian oligarchs will waltz back into Moscow and buy up anything else left.

Boris knows this.

Especially when Trump was in power and he was "America First" and disparaging of NATO. Under Biden the USA are stable allies again but it's a warning shot for Europe that we need to be able to look after ourselves rather than coasting under the American umbrella.
The world has always seen Russia and US as the true superpowers. China is in the ascendancy of course, but is this the moment in history that the EU starts becoming a true superpower?

Why is this knob head on Sky banging on about Russia being invaded by Germany in 41? They invaded the other half of Poland, which the Russians had invaded in 39, first. Hardly any of ww2 was actually fought on their soil ffs. Belarus/Ukraine took the brunt of it. German forces never made it further than the line Leningrad-Moscow-Stalingrad.

This shit needs correcting, instead our press go along with it. Wankers.
The Molotov Ribbentrop non-aggression pact empowered Germany to invade France and the Low Countries and threated Great Britain. Without that in place Hitler could not risk a war on two fronts. He had to take out the West and then turn his attention to Russia. Part of this pact was to divide Poland so when Germany invaded in 1939, Russia came in and attacked Poland from the other side. Stalin was just as brutal as the Nazis - see the Katyn Forest massacre.

Defend the southern border, keep the supply lines coming from Poland through Lviv I would guess.

Time decay is on Ukraine's side, it's a war that will be ultimately lost eventually but the longer it goes on the more chance Putin is overthrown.

It depends how you define lost. If Ukrainians refuse to accept any new government that Russia may try to install then its just perpetual. There is still no easy way Russia can conclude this in a country of 50 million people that will resist in a country that is f***ing huge

Does being an officer in the British Army steer you toward a career as a Tory MP?
