Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Need to wean ourselves off Chinese products. If they cannot play ball in the world then we manufacture elsewhere and pay more for the products. This is all of our own lazy philosophy. Gas from psychopaths goods from hostile communist brutal regimes.

Totally agree Harry. The U.K. is al about getting products for the lowest price rather than considering the ethics behind the product(s).

It will be interesting to see if this expedites the race to make ourselves self sufficient from renewables energy. Sure it will take time but if there is anytime to do it, it’s now.

This from 2014!

How does Europe wean itself off Russian gas?

Are these the videos? These are of the same building I think

I've just clicked on them, yeah can see them, wasn't sure we'd be able to with it being FB. It's a total shit show isnt it. Glad your friend is ok.

Sorry like, but what Churchill said might have held credence in he 1940's but not now. Nigh on 80yrs have passed, I'd like to think the civilised aspect of our society has progressed from messages designed to inspire innocent people fighting wars.
We could go back 80 years in a heart beat if the UK was attacked.

That statement is as true now as it ever was.

It's an uncomfortable truth but it is a truth.

I feel closer to this than most as my wife is Ukrainian. I've been to Kiev many times and it's like any other European city, this could easily be London, Paris, Budapest, Copenhagen, etc. She touted my thoughts on us moving to Kiev about 5 years ago but I don't speak the language and the UK is home and I would never leave. The most potent gun I've fired is a .22 air rifle and it's amazing to think on another timeline I could be there now with an AK47 shooting at human beings.
Are her family and friends ok mate?

One of the best things that has happened is the container costs going through the roof from China.. it doesn't make economic sense for some of the tat to be sent now .

Lots of additional work for European and UK manufacturers.. quicker turnaround and now cheaper with the shipping costs removed.

Lad I know has a pet supplier business.. dog beds , cages, leads, bowls etc.. he said the cost of containers is more than the cost of the goods in them so he sources far more local now

We used to be mint at manufacturing stuff, we should start making stuff again tbh.

And why aren’t they?

you have to think of it from both sides

do the Ukrainians have the capabilities and numbers to successfully attack

do the Russians have the capabilities and numbers to successfully defend

if someone had said to me before it all kicked off - 'hypothetically - could Ukraine destroy a column of Russian vehicles x miles long 5 days into a war' - i'd say no. I'd say they dont have the numbers to both oppose the Russian AF and engage the column. I'd also expect that the Russian column will be chock full of ZHU23's and mobile s300 / s400 launchers which either need to be destroyed or made to turn off their radars

I'd say it would require a military peer (or better) to do the job - the Yanks could pull it off without breaking a sweat, they just have so much more capability than everyone else -
something to take care of enemy planes - check
something to take care of enemy radars - check
something to take care of armoured columns - check

Nearly. Just doesn’t quite catch. I hope the Ukrainians don’t genuinely throw these at tanks as they will get shot.

But these attacks on support vehicles could leave the tanks useless and abandoned if they manage to start taking them out. Seems the method of Choice is drive by. If he threw it in the back it probably burns. They are horrific things molotovs.

Boris talking now on bbc in Warsaw with the Polish PM.

He’s said we stand ready to take Ukrainian refugees which is false.

He praises the Polish people for being on the front line in helping.

Saying Zelensky is inspiring the world.

Putin has underestimated the resolve of the ROW.

Sanctions will intensify and go as long as it takes.

We will continue to support Ukrainian friends as long as it takes.

I am more convinced than ever that Putin will fail and he must fail. We will protect a sovereign and democratic Ukraine.

Credit to Boris, he spoke well there (refugee stuff aside).

Also as I said it was my understanding of Uks position not my position but don’t let get in the way

You've got to have some bollocks to cruise by a Russian Military vehicle and start lobbing molotov's at it like. Fair play.
