If you can't see the geopolitical implications of NATO from a Russian perspective I can't help you. Are you all ignorant to the fact that countries have their own spheres of influence or is that exclusive to the West? Nato have been significantly strengthening their presence to the East since the war, as evident in that map. Russia isn't happy with this and that's been the rhetoric for a couple of decades now, yet it's continually crept East. Stop being will fully ignorant to this and understand what could happen if you continually poke a bear.

Don't wind me up, I'm no Russian supporter are certainly not in favour of this conflict but don't act like the West, particular the US haven't a history riddled of conflicts that launched on greatly flakier or even damn right illegal justifications.
should we (the west) refuse nations entry into nato on the grounds tht third parties may not like it? Particularly when those third parties are the ones the applicants feel under threat from

My point is that saying this is somehow about supplying water to an illegally annexed territory is silly as invading an entire country has no reasonable relationship thereto. I don’t think that’s too hard to parse.

Not when the illegally annexed territory has access to huge oil & gas potential that could threaten Russian gas wealth.
Crimea was important enough to annex so it's important enough to maintain.

What the fuck are you going on about? My post was a response to the suggestion that NATO's expansion is to blame for Russia's aggression. In other words those countries wanted to join, no one forced them.
So Russia’s aggression didn’t force much smaller countries to want support from bigger countries who can help defend them

That’s what I was on about

Isn't it bonkers that after the great wars we still have countries trying to invade others under outdated pretexts.

The human instinct to evolve and compete on a planet with finite resources only really ends with either a collective understanding that we need to co-exist collaboratively or else it's just a fight to be the last standing in what's left of the world.

Russia has no genuine reason to think NATO or the EU were planning on harming them, and the EU in itself has brought about a lasting peace and collaboration for the betterment of the continent.

It's just mad that countries continue to be run by people like Putin.

Hopefully he goes before it's too late and we can all refocus on the more important issues facing the world.
It’s all about money and power. Two things that can bring the worst out of putin and his like.

You have to have empathy for the Russian people. I would imagine its not a popular war, and they like us have hopes, dreams, kids to feed and bills to pay. I think its a price that has to be paid of course, but he future look bleak for them along with the poor people of the Ukraine of course.
And that’s why it has to be done mate it’s rough and hard but as much as we can take away resources and finance from him the better.

That video of the bloke saying farewell as his family boarded the bus did the same to me
when it first kicked off there was a picture and short video of 2 captured russians posted on here. one looked mid 20's and the other a teenager. that affected me more than i ever thought.
i'm not ashamed to say i wept and still wonder about their fate. even at the match at wigan on saturday it was always there in the back of my mind. it feels quite surreal. i remember the protect and survive campaign and all that carry on when i was younger but the present day seems more of a real threat.
i just hope these talks can stop more killing.

This is just whataboutary, nato expanding doesn’t justify this invasion neither does the wests appalling record of starting conflict.
