Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

I’m afraid so, minimise the damage and loss of life. There’s other ways to fight back as has been shown with the financial markets. There’s always more than one way to skin a cat.
Cool. So when should we stand aside for, say, Germany or France or any other country where they are similar to us then?

Just in this particular case or anytime a country seizes another country/ area/ region etc?
Just in this case, got to take each invasion on its own merit yeah. It’s not everyday you have a world nuclear superpower invading a nation unprovoked and threatening to hit the red button

The longest period of peace in Europe involved the complete regime change and military neutering of Germany. What it didn't involve was financial punishment.

The issue now with Putin is surely that if he is allowed to go back off, he'll come back with more aggressive Imperial plans in the future. I don't think anyone really gave a f*** about Russia but now by hook or by crook, we are in a world war. He can't threaten the world again.

WW2 doesn't happen if not for the Treaty of Versailles after WW1. It's a delicate one as you have to do something but humiliating and financially destroying a country like Russia would probably come back to bite us.

That’s not happening is it, pointless comment
Answer the question.

You just said that a country invading another country should be allowed to take over that country because they’re similar.

So presumably you’d have been happy for Germany to have taken over Britain in the two wars, yes? They have similar history to Britain. Similar in character.

Day after day the normal Russian folk are seeing the World turn on Putin.
You won’t stop people talking and the propaganda message keeps getting louder and louder.
Just got to keep the mad bastard and close advisors away from the button and can only hope bravery and common sense prevails within and he is removed from his position, forcibly the only likely opportunity.
This. Maybe Putin forgot/ underestimated the power that the internet has. He no longer has the info control that the old dictators had through state run propaganda machines

I have to say, you’re a decent poster but I can’t believe you’ve just typed that.
Come on then, everyone is so keen to say let’s get in there, use force, show putin who the daddy is…..how do you all think that is going to go? How do you think this is going to end as it is now? How many more lives lost, buildings destroyed? And do any of you really think Ukraine are going to win this?

Honestly, a lot of you are living in Hollywood. It’s absolute shit that this has happened, it’d be awesome if Ukraine and the west joined forces and kicked the arse out of the Russian army and played football with Putins Head….it’s not going to happen though.

Maybe, but I'd argue allowing him to back off now (even if he is "saving face") is the best chance of a regime change. The anti-war sentiment is clearly there in Russia right now. Putin has never seemed weaker domestically. While he's at war they'd never depose him. But Russia has a history of changing it's leaders after failed military campaigns.

One out of how many? 99% of us here think Putin is a ****.
2 now
;)

I don't think many are advocating us joinig in militarily are they?

They will just make your life hell.
Your outlook is horrendous.
There is a famous story about the Sikhs when a large Muslim army was approaching. They were led by Satguru Gobind Singh and he sat listening to his devotees arguing over whether to resist or remain pacifist. After a while he stood up and said, "Forget your theories about violence and non-violence. Pick up your sword and fight".

@Roger @Pancho @AB22 Easy Tiger

Can any of you look into this and stop the left/right wing bile that’s pouring through and the pointless
Off topic arguing

Seems to be a fair bit of tit for tat boring arguing.

Then if you get then if you can’t take politics don’t post. Blah blah crap.

When in reality can you explain why this isn’t on the main board?

War isn’t only political we should all unite shame many would rather suit their own agenda and miss the most important thing.

An explanation at least would be canny like.
And it's the same old shit they say to each other everyday on every fkn thread.................................boring as!!!

There's definitely something in this. Russia ain't North Korea and there is now young adults who have never known the 'glory days' of the USSR. I hate social media in general, but it comes into its own at times like this. Children and young adults are more connected then ever, and I can't imagine many 20 year old Russians think it's glorious to be killing people next door and committing war crimes.
