For those that couldn't watch it. He held up a printed screenshot of what looked like phone messages.

I think the translator missed the beginning of it but it started with this which I think is the last message and possibly the mother wanting to send her son a parcel.

"A parcel, what kind of a parcel mama can you send me? What are you talking about, what happened? Mama I'm in Ukraine, there is a real war raging here. I'm afraid, we are bombing all of the cities together, even, even targeting civilians. We were told they would welcome us and they are falling under our armoured vehicles, throwing themselves under the wheels and not allowing us to pass. They call us fascists, mama this is so hard."

He then finished it saying this was several moments before he was killed.
To expand on this as it was only partially translated earlier. He held up the printed A4 and said "This is an actual screenshot from someone who is dead already" and it was a text message conversation. This is what was missed in translation earlier on the BBC (16:11 on BBC News) with the quoted messages in italics.

"Hello Usher, how are you doing? Why has it been so long since you responded? Are you really in training exercises?"

asks the mother of the killed soldier, moments before he was killed.

"Mama I'm no longer in Karneer, I'm not in training sessions"

"Where are you then? Papa is asking whether I can send you a parcel"

"What kind of a parcel mama can you send me? What are you talking about, what happened? Mama I'm in Ukraine, there is a real war raging here. I'm afraid, we are bombing all of the cities together, even, even targeting civilians. We were told they would welcome us and they are falling under our armoured vehicles, throwing themselves under the wheels and not allowing us to pass. They call us fascists, mama this is so hard."

He then finished it saying this was several moments before he was killed. It's not nice to hear if true. I reluctantly say "if true" as sadly I don't think I can believe it without some doubt given what I've seen so far regarding propoganda.

@Slim999, Well done on your pointless post as this above is what I prefer doing, sharing stuff that is thread relevant but it's obvious that I would be off topic if I'm discussing the few who feel it's a free for all.

Out of all of this tragedy, it’s the single most wonderful thing that I’ve been clinging on to. The global community is united, from the f***ing judo federation, to the Brazilian Government. From the Polish bloke driving a refugee to Czechia, to the EU and the world coming together to cripple the Russian economy. The line in Balham High Street - people taking donations of clothes and supplies to a charity for refugees in Poland.

It’s as if the whole world is Arya Stark. It gives me goosebumps and make me think we can do this if we stand up to the cûnt.

What did you hear about the Brazilian govt? At best he has been neutral, from what I've seen:

Her character arc was shit mind

What have you added today that is thread topic relevant that others may find helpful?

Ignoring our personal tit for tat, along with others I've added a little bit today that I know others will be interested in whereas you were involved in tit for tat that nobody really wants to skip past. That other poster had the decency to realise that wasn't really thread relevant and left it at that.

That's if for me as you'll clearly keep coming back with more crap just like you did in the COVID forum previously.

Good point though I come here to read, correct and share info on the latest just like I did during the early months of COVID.

I have to come onto this thread as it's in the Politics forum and a minority think this thread is a free for all and anything goes whereas this isn't really a subject just for the politically minded at all because it's in this forum.

It's a thread for just about everyone who uses RTG who probably don't even venture into the Politics forum at any other time but have to come here. A few have even posted within this thread that they don't bother with other places as this thread is a collection of the latest goings on.

That is testament to this place but personally I think at times this thread is just used by some to vent their political anger towards something as it's got a bigger soapbox to stand on and that sometimes ends up with personal bickering.
Stick him on ignore. It's a shame because this was a the best place to get the most up to date distilled news and opinions on the crisis. Now people are talking about gammons and mouth breathers. like every other thread on politics forum.

It was inevitable and probably doesn't matter now the war is gone into the second week.

Dropping cluster munitions in residential areas is a pretty hard one to defend. And hitting residential skyscrapers with short range rockets...well, um, they're almost line-of-sight weapons systems, so what the hell else did they think they were going to hit?
Seen footage of them shelling a hospital from just the other side of the street.

One less positive piece of news from Ukraine. I have heard of Indian and in particular Chinese nationals (not to mention any Russians) living in Ukraine have been targeted by Ukrainians given their governments position in sanctioning / blocking / abstaining on global actions. I guess somewhat inevitable but adds to the impact of this all.

Saboteurs captured here, apparently.

Wrapped in a spoiler because right at the end, on about 1:11, it's quite grapic in showing the body of someone who's been killed.

In the replies there's people saying all those boxes in the vans are Lenovo computer equipment.

Sanctions are part of the war. To block or abstain is to stand against the free world. Can’t be surprised if those fighting on the ground take a harsh stand in response.

They voted against Russia in the UN Security Council vote last week. Small change I know, but it’s the small things that add up.

How very dare you. Her character arc was the best of the lot.

Anyway, now is not the time, @MackemX will tell us off. ;)

Brutal last 10 seconds.
Why do some have yellow armbands on?

Have a look at my post history. The evidence is there.

In the last hour:

Discussion about sporting ‘retaliation’ (FIFA, IOC, IIHF, NHL & NBA)

Discussion about the ‘ceasefire’

Discussion about refugees and the UK’s responsibilities towards them.

So clearly you didn’t take your own words seriously when you said “Ignoring our personal tit for tat”, because while you’ve been continuing with your childish tantrum because politcs was being discussed on the politics forum, I’ve been engaging with several other posters on several other related topics.

Got to say , my 'experience' of Russians abroad is not a good one.
Unfriendly, rude, no manners, eat like pigs and very aggressive in drink.
Egypt, Turkey and Dominican were three places where I had poor experiences with them, and Turkish/Egyptian taxi drivers hated them.
Not tarring them all with same brush, but from my own limited experience with them, I can't stand the bassas.
We were in Turkey a few year back and there was a Russian lad absolutely chemist in a family hotel. He was built like a brick shithouse but was acting like a right wanker. He said something to the Turkish lad behind the bar, which must have been canny insulting. The Turkish lad was only about 5 and half foot and 10 stone. He jumped the bar and set about this Russian and was giving him a canny howking and had to be pulled back. The Russian lads nose was bust and he was stunned to fuck. Same holiday another one who was in his thirties clipped a 15 year old kid and made a right mess of his face. The Russian got lifted and had to pay to get out and get his passport back. The lad was with his grandparents and the group of Russians were hassling them to pay half the money. A couple of lads, Millwall supporters, had a word with them and told them to leave them alone. There was a canny tasty water polo game the next day. It was a good holiday apart from that.
