Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Why am I even replying to this? 🤔 I'll say one more thing as it's a thread on the politics forum with a subject and it seems that you can't quite grasp that and coming out with the old "if you don't like it just ignore it" and thinkk this thread can be a free for all discussion. That's my point and why I raised it again with @Pancho as it's often too much to ignore when people are looking to see what the latest updates are in. Not everyone is that bothered about politics but they then end up seeing a load of political discussion that sometimes end up, like yours did earlier, off topic and basically tit for tat.

You wouldn't like the Trump Thread mate

There's a singular truth here: Russia invaded a sovereign country for no reasons other than self-generated pretexts.

That's not really a perspective-based argument. Other than Russian nationalists, I don't think any reasonable person, regardless of origin, would dispute it. Or perhaps it's just a signal that one perspective is based on a mountain of utter bullshit. I'm past the point of pretending that the fact that stories have two sides means the sides are even remotely equivalent in legitimacy.
You're debating with someone who seems to have more than a passing interest in the Third Position...

I do understand it. I can understand why Russia feels smaller, emasculated, or whatever. But the expansion of NATO to places like Bulgaria and Estonia hasn't resulted in those places doing anything at all to harm Russian interests. Ukraine pivoting westward wouldn't be any different.

In human terms, Putin's last two decades have been that of an abusive ex-spouse: "If I can't have her, no one can!"

Feels or Is ?

The West directly benefitted, expanded and took territory from the USSR. Done with the pen or the panzer.

Russia's the same size it always was. Russia, as much as it wishes this weren't true, was not equivalent to the USSR. The USSR was Russia plus a bunch of other countries crushed into submission under its bootheels.

The west "gained territory" because much of the rest of the USSR, in addition to all the satellite states (Poland, etc.) wanted fuck all to do with Russia after the Soviet Union. But the USSR isn't Russia, and Russia's loss of the rest of the USSR was the fault of its own incompetence and mismanagement.

I agree with the sentiment, but splitting the thread means the news is split between 2 threads and people will double post same information and I feel it will become mis jointed trying to keep abreast of the info and updates.

When the other Thread gets the jokes, wind ups and other stuff that will happen on the SMB, do we open a third thread somewhere else?

I just find it better to skim past the tit for tat stuff and am so grateful to the people who post updates from the likes of twitter, which I dont use, so I can see more views from many different people, its been a god send to see all the updates in one place.

Fifa in 'advanced talks' over suspending Russia

Fifa is in advanced talks over the full suspension of Russia until further notice, according to BBC sports editor Dan Roan.
The global football governing body is understood to be working closely with its European counterpart Uefa and an announcement is expected later today.
It would mean Russia would not be able to play at the women's Euro 2022 in England in the summer and Poland will get a bye in the World Cup qualifier play-off next month - a match that Poland's FA has said it will boycott.
Iceland has also said it will refuse to play against Russia in June, and the International Olympic Committee has recommended that athletes from Russia and Belarus be banned from competitions.
In the meantime, other sporting bodies just do it rather than talk about it. Who are they talking with??

Can someone throw something at this giant helmet wearing glasses.
Imagine if he went to the bog and you walked in, surely you'd want to go over and give him a good kicking! Does he really believe the stuff he's coming out with? I recall yesterday he said this

"The Russian Federation voted against the draft resolution submitted in connection with the fact that its sponsors proposed that it be registered that the Security Council failed to exercise its primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security."

And now I've just heard this in response to some quote he read out. (15:52 on BBC News)

"Today's government of Ukraine is no such government. Moreover during the special milarty operation Russia has been excercising it's right to self defence from a regime that has been striving to gain access to nuclear weapons."

I won't post it all as he's still going and he's trying to paint a picture that the West is picking on them by helping Ukraine. It's unreal! 🤪

Why can't we just discuss it in here ;)

Serious question, why come on to a football forums political sub forum to get updates on an international crisis. Surely there are better sources of credible information out there?
I come on here because you get the broad spectrum of truth, untruths, comedy, tragedy and community. Sometimes you have to take the rough with the smooth.
Just my view, peace and love....

That isn’t how it is viewed though, we’re on the cusp of a ww3 situation.
