Oh he’s not going to back down here, either are Ukraine. It could be a very very long war lasting years with stalemates. I think he just wants to keep nato out of it.

how Do you freeze assets in Russia? London Paris etc ok but assets in Moscow?

isnt SWIFT an international trading device, is it necessary for them to trade within Soviet Union

I found a graph yesterday showing where all the reserves are held, and about 32% or so is held in countries who have now said they won't let Russia access them (US, EU countries, us, Canada etc). It's like if I lent you a tenner and you said 'I'm not giving it back to you'.

SWIFT is international, won't affect trade within Russia although I read something suggesting it may affect credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, AMex etc, which aren't Russian but operate there, just as they aren't British but operate here) - so maybe Russians won't be able to use their credit cards but I'm not sure about this

Don’t know but I doubt anyone would be surprised if many millions of Russian dollars are deposited in Swiss banks
