I honestly think they've been told it was an exercise, f***ing ***** trick tbh.

Think this is true. Might explain the 4 weeks camping out on the border. Guessing no phones allowed etc.
At very least I think the conscripts thought they'd be welcomed or at least accepted. Remember many of these lads will be as thick as whale spunk.

This is one of the most profound impacts of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. It's hard to over-state what a seismic shift this is. Well done Germany.

This is an excellent development. Another unintended consequence of Putin’s actions.

Lukashenko should be nervous too. I’m sure his population are watching events in Ukraine and taking notes. His big friend is not proving quite as all powerful as they thought and if Putin goes Lukashenko will be next.

I really don’t believe there are many senior military staff anywhere in the world that would wish to be the first to launch a nuclear weapon. Those officers sitting with Putin will know the truth of the situation, they know they invaded another country and that NATO isn’t about to nuke Russia. They know it’s not going as well as they hoped and they know that launching nuclear missiles will destroy their country as well as others and millions of people will die.
They know the rest of the world is watching and judging their actions.

Makes you wonder if they are being properly briefed before being sent in or...they want to be caught for a number of reasons.
They are being told that they are off on training exercises. Many Russian troops inside Ukraine don't even know where they are until they arrive. Loads surrendering now, vehicles abandoned all over the shop. I have a video of destroyed vehicles on the road from Belorussia, but no idea how to post it. I imagine it will soon be up from another source anyway.

There just needs to be something in the leave talks which gives the form of a 'victory'. Despite the scary language I still can't believe that a nuclear exchange is something he wants or desires.
Declining though he appears to be, he must have the thought that giving the order for a nuclear exchange when Russia isn't being attacked is likely to result in at least one of the people in the room saying 'OK, boss' and shooting him in the head.
Take out London and 6 hours later a 200 mph jet stream dumps fallout in Moscow.
Take out London and that's irrelevant: there won't be a Moscow.

I think people are being optimistic if they think Putin launched a full scale invasion just to call the whole thing off after 4 days with nothing gained.

I get the impression they will go all out tonight to capture Kyiv.

I suspect many of them will see Ukrainians as brothers (in some cases literally, perhaps) and won't want their blood on their hands. Imagine if this was Britain unjustifiably invading Ireland....many of us would feel that way too.

Imagine if Russia got a decent west leaning leader that wanted to bring the good times back for his people ? The world would be a much more pleasant place tbh 🤗
Maybe that's where we went wrong after the Cold War, although not an actual war in the conventional sense, the victors IE the western powers were far too slow to involve Russia into the international fold, allowing discontent and the rise of a nationalistic leader. Quite a few comparisons with Versailles and the aftermath of WW1
