Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Sorry but this is an existential crisis for Ukraine. I don’t think the women and children spending time in bunkers care if the people risking their lives are neo nazi racists. Plenty of time to condemn people’s politics once the conflict is over. Until then my full support is behind every defender of the country. Every one of them is a hero and I would hope us British Would act in the same way.
This, I'm afraid.

Cannon fodder sacrificed.

Special ops at the end to control the population.

Special ops aren't really that useful for controlling populations. That's not their speciality

Surely it would have been better to use spec ops first, take out Kyiv quickly, then use the conscripts as an occupation force

This way they have allowed the Ukranians to rally, at least long enough to win a massive propaganda victory

Exactly, for example the picture of the Dynamo Kyiv ultras on this thread is inspiring in the sense that they’re defending their homes against an imperialist oppressor. However I guarantee those same lads will have made monkey noises to abuse England players whenever we’ve played in Kyiv. That doesn’t taint what they’re doing right now, but I won’t whitewash these people and claim them to be saints. No human is perfect, there’s good amongst the bad and bad amongst the good.
They may not be saints but every one of them is a hero doing something I hope no one in this country has to do ever.

There are racists and Nazis in Ukraine, plenty of stories and photos out there if you look, and they will mostly be fighting against the Russians. Not everything is a Hollywood film, there are ambiguities in life.
Aye there's videos of apparently known far right individuals teaching the civilians how to shoot weapons.

NLAWs look like clever bits of kit for something that's disposable after use.

I hope those in the tank weren't surrendering though and the Ukranians decided to fire upon them anyways. That's rather dodgy ground to be walking on.
Ukraine has been more than fair with who they have taken in mate, people see it as cruel letting families know they are captured but they are alive and being treat well and fed. During this horrible war Ukrainians have showed and displayed amazing humanitarian skills showing the world even when they are going through hell they are thinking about mankind.

Take these interrogation videos with a tractor full of salt, but this lad doesn't look like he's hit puberty.

Isnt that what they tried on day one by taking the airport at Kyiv. It didn’t go to plan.

I take what you’re saying and we’ll find out whether we’ve been misled soon. I do beings this time that Boris sees this as such an important issue that he’s not going to be foolish to harm the optics of us being the moral side to take.

You know those little boats crossing the channel? There will be people in those boats everyday with just as powerful a story to tell, and just as much right to come to the UK safely

We were happy to watch them drown. Why would we act otherwise towards the Ukraine?

Few better things then a walk along Kreschatyk and a sit on a bench with a fresh coffee. Here's hoping that the opportunity does happen for everyone. The longer they hold out the more optimism I'm feeling. Maybe that's me being naive but it's clear its not going as easily as Putin planned.
I did have a view of Putin as being quite calculating and he rarely doesn’t get his own way with things he has control over. I just can’t believe he didn’t think the Ukrainians would put up as much of a fight as we’re told they’re doing. Would be a big change in form.

I hope it’s true that the Ukrainians are putting up a bitterly strong resistance, and if they are I hope it’s not what Putin expected.

Hopefully one day soon I can do that. Even if Putin wins all the battles he has already lost. Not a chance Ukrainians will allow a puppet government to rule them.

The sights alone on 'em cost about a grand a pop.

The tank may have run out of fuel.

It's odd the way that they are holding back their best troops

Almost as if Putin is so paranoid about being overthrown he is holding back his best soldiers in case someone tries to overthrow him

I've seen quite a few interviews with former military bods over the past few days and the thinking is, is that Russia likes to send in the expendables first as a softener.

There is also concern that he is holding back his best for other operations.

Aye they've set up a phone line for Russian families to call in and ask about the status of their family.

Ultimately, it’s closer to home and there are more British eyes on this conflict than any of the others. I’m not saying that any story is more powerful than the other.
