Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

NLAWs look like clever bits of kit for something that's disposable after use.

I hope those in the tank weren't surrendering though and the Ukranians decided to fire upon them anyways. That's rather dodgy ground to be walking on.

from what i've seen the ukranians have been fair with their prisoners. hard to judge the context of this but i was in a tank regiment, it's pretty easy to surrender, you point your main armament somewhere out of the way and get out.

There are racists and Nazis in Ukraine, plenty of stories and photos out there if you look, and they will mostly be fighting against the Russians. Not everything is a Hollywood film, there are ambiguities in life.
It’s very rare I agree with one of your posts but this is right in my opinion. So many people need things to be black and white or a case of goodies vs baddies to process it, there’s not much room for any nuance.

You can be offering your full support to the Ukrainian cause and your heart bleed for what they’re going through whilst acknowledging there’s huge issues with racism there.

You can think Putin is a **** and hope he loses without having a blood lust and revelling in news and footage of young Russian conscripts losing their lives.

Looks like the expert views that urban fighting would be hell for Russia are coming true. They get to city boundaries easily outgunning Ukraine with artillery and Ukrainians strategically dropping back.

But they are not degrading the Ukrainian armed forces. So there are then thousands of them, plus national guard, civil defence, police, armed civilians etc… still when they enter and they are getting ambushed and equipment destroyed through anti tanks.

Kharkiv and Ipliv appear to have been bloodbaths for the Russians.

That expert yesterday said it’s 1 to 5 ratio in Favour of defence in cities even if the attack is good. Seems the guerrilla warfare is working for now

They’re aggressors. Looked like there was one lad there. He’ll never be able to take a tank full of lads any other way. They’re hardly going to lie down.

Yup, agreed. What Crosby may not realise is that any man of fighting age (whatever your skin tone) isn't able to leave. There was an English dude on the news yesterday struggling to get out, that's just the way it is, there's a f***ing war going on.

I did not realise this. However there are black woman and children who are being left also. I understand the men part. But woman and children no.

1/2 German NTV news mentioned that Putin might hold a speech today. He's obviously backed into a corner which means he could threaten the West with everything he's got - nuclear intervention included. Possibly a prelude to a great and desperate offensive before West's arms arrive

2/2 Last night's larger offensive does not seem to have achieved any remarkable goals for Russia. The speech might be an attempt to get Zelensky into Minsk to "negotiate" through intimidation, we'll have to wait and see. Zelensky will certainly deny this offfer to meet in Minsk

Putin's speech is canceled. The topic would've been the "negotiations" at Minsk, but as Zelensky promptly refused there was nothing for Putin to declare it seems. Before the cancelation the people were left to wait for more than an hour for the broadcast.

There's more and more disorganisation among the Russian brass. These speeches were almost like the bread and butter for Putin, now he doesn't even manage to present himself to the Russian people. I have characterised Putin as an opportunist, but now he's acting very unpredictably

Oh I don't disagree with your comment. I agree, the context of the video isn't fully known.
Only those there will know the full situation.

You mentioned light tanks earlier, were you formation recce?

Exactly, for example the picture of the Dynamo Kyiv ultras on this thread is inspiring in the sense that they’re defending their homes against an imperialist oppressor. However I guarantee those same lads will have made monkey noises to abuse England players whenever we’ve played in Kyiv. That doesn’t taint what they’re doing right now, but I won’t whitewash these people and claim them to be saints. No human is perfect, there’s good amongst the bad and bad amongst the good.

Boris Johnson confirming we’ll “of course be taking refugees.”

Good news. Seen all sorts of rubbish on social media to the contrary.

You would be unwise to believe what Johnson says

The are 2 reasons why we aren't issuing Visas to allow Ukrainians to come here:

1. the Governments policy is that there should be no legal routes for refugees to come to the UK under any circumstances, no matter where from. Thats why they arrive in illegal and dangerous boat crossings. If we create a legal and safe route for Ukrainians to come here we set a precedent that other refugees should be allowed safe and legal passage to the UK, and the Government are set against it. We took back control, remember?

2. the system under Priti Patel is fucked. She made a commitment to reduce the number of people given leave to remain in the UK. They way she is achieving it is by slowing down the process until it takes years. There are currently 60,000 people who have waited longer than 5 mths for a decision (nearly all of them are legitimate and will be allowed to remain). That's why we are putting people up in hotels - all of our asylum accommodation is full to overflowing and has been since Patel got the job

Sorry but this is an existential crisis for Ukraine. I don’t think the women and children spending time in bunkers care if the people risking their lives are neo nazi racists. Plenty of time to condemn people’s politics once the conflict is over. Until then my full support is behind every defender of the country. Every one of them is a hero and I would hope us British Would act in the same way.

The African fella on the station said they had took the women and kids. If this is the worst thing that a few Ukrainians do in this war then I still give the brave wonderful people have my utter utter respect. It is now on my list of places I want to see before I die. The list isn’t very long but I hope to go to a peaceful and fully restored Ukraine.
Few better things then a walk along Kreschatyk and a sit on a bench with a fresh coffee. Here's hoping that the opportunity does happen for everyone. The longer they hold out the more optimism I'm feeling. Maybe that's me being naive but it's clear its not going as easily as Putin planned.

I take what you’re saying and we’ll find out whether we’ve been misled soon. I do beings this time that Boris sees this as such an important issue that he’s not going to be foolish to harm the optics of us being the moral side to take.
