I know what SWIFT is but not clear of what the practical implications of this will be. Would there have been much in the way of cross-border payments involving Russia anyway, under the current circumstances?

I'm short - yeah, loads.

Putin has miscalculated. Sadly that means it will likely get worse before it gets better..like a rat cornered he will lash out at anything.

But it will backfire. The sycophants around him will turn once there money is threatened while the ordinary younger Russians are already appalled. This isn't 1960 anymore, you cannot block information from getting out to people who are extremely tech savvy. Start blowing up regular Ukrainians and the world will unite ..he is done for..just a matter of how much damage he can cause before those around him put a bullet in his brain and then claim to be heroes. Hopefully sooner rather than later

It's the best we can hope for

Ordinary Europeans are leading the charge..the politicians are starting to follow. Sadly the US is slow off the mark. But that's usual. They'll catch up.

Wouldn’t say they were slow, curtain twitching knowing what’s going on holding back on purpose probably made their move to do this before others.

I think that's a tad unfair. They have the most troops stationed in nearby NATO countries and imposed the tightest sanctions first. Genuine question as you wil probably know better than me, is there much interest amongst the American public about this?
