Lets hope the Ukranians get through this weekend unscathed as possible, and maybe the pressure of so many nations can bring some sort of sense to all this chaos. God only knows where this can end up, but Putin has to go regardless.

Just got to keep fingers crossed. Putin most definitely is twitchy which could be percieved as a positive and a negative (as he may do something daft)

Statement from German Chancellor Scholz right now (translated):

The Russian attack marks a turning point. It is our duty to do our best to support Ukraine in its defense against #Putin's invading army . That's why we are delivering 1000 anti-tank weapons and 500 Stinger missiles to our friends in #Ukraine.

Sure, I only offer different takes on these happening, I understand this is seen as dissent and is upsetting people (sorry), would it be better if we all agreed 100% ?

Said when it started to kick off the younger generation of Russia are the key to all of this, if they stand up to putin in huge numbers they can bring an end to his rule, social media despite their propaganda must be the biggest risk for civil unrest within Russia. Previously it was a black out of anything other than state tv, not anymore

the best outcome would be for Russian people to stop this. they did it once before in 1990 but in some ways were let down.

The west was so happy that the wall had fallen etc. that the US in particular was content to allow a drunk like Yeltsin to have full sway. The place became lawless with the Russian mafia in control and the country's assets stripped by assholes who became billionaires. the average lifespan in Russia actually dropped in the 1990s as so many drank themselves to death..and that's why people welcomed Putin when he first emerged because he brought law and order back.

If you compare the treatment of Germany after the end of the first world war with how it was treated after the second (along with Japan) the outcome was night and day..a helping hand and the country/s became peaceful hugely successful democracies ..punished and they turned to Hitler. If Russia gets and earns another chance hopefully it will get a helping hand.

Ukraine has done nothing to remotely justify this. In fact, Ukraine has had three of its regions either annexed or broken away since 2014.

Yes Ukraine was moving towards EU and NATO membership, but that is nothing to do with Russia and is not a threat to Russia, and no way should be regarded as ‘steps’ towards an invasion.

That's not really much of a shock though. The biggest shock is the Belarusian soldiers are probably a lot more skilled and better drilled.
