If this becomes a long running conflict there is also the issue that so many Ukrainians live in Russia..the two countries are s linked.

Think 1970's England and the bombs going off on the mainland via the IRA. One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. It could get even uglier
 
I’m all for sanctions particularly as the West is doing little else but I wonder at what point Putin might start to class them like military interventions and threatening the West.

I doubt he will allow the West to just keep impounding Russian commercial ships or with holding vast amounts of Russian sovereign wealth without threats. It’s a lot more damaging then bombing a military column in many ways and he will have a ceiling

Look like they are digging in slowing them down also a lot of people seem to think Ukraine don’t have highly skilled military with a lot better trained than what they have been facing even the Russian parachute regiment have came unstuck with the Ukrainian special forces.
