Sometimes you can kind a way to do the right thing whilst still maintaining a narrative or agenda, the best military propagandists in the world did it.
Indeed, it looks thoughtful and honourable and they may well be the primary motivations but it’s serving a much more cynical purpose too. They need to use every trick in the book under the circumstances so can’t blame them.

Reestablish themselves as a global power and demonstrate the current weaknesses in the West, potentially galvanising other powers to help create a multipolar world.
Just been listening to John Mearsheimer's 2015 presentation on the Ukraine crisis as it stood then. He warned that the West was leading Ukraine down a primrose path and it would only embolden them to confront Russia. It's of no strategic importance to the US, it openly said so, and policy makers in Washington were fairly unanimous in believing there was never a chance Ukraine could join NATO despite the political rhetoric.

His idea at the time was to listen to Putin and establish Ukraine as a neutral country. I don't know if that's even possible now, this invasion, along with the ethnic divide could end up creating so much hostility it might be impossible to have peace in the country no matter who or how it's run.

I’ll have to look that up, but certainly that is how things are shaping up.

The source for Hungary was the official Twatbook page of the Foreign Minister, for Germany it came from some news articles detailing that the government is open to removing Russia from SWIFT. It’s taken time for Germany to make this decision as the collateral damage for us could be huge as the transactions via SWIFT are linked to 35% of our gas and 50% of our coal imports (all from Russia). Shit like this is exactly why the new government is desperate to get renewable energy schemes underway. Unfortunately they’ve only been in power for 2 months. First Schröder and then Merkel caused huge vulnerabilities to this country.
Yeah I agree theres a lot to think about for them as was listening on 5 live yesterday .

How would you feel about the Russians doing it? Setting up a hotline for weeping Ukrainian grannies, in order to hasten the end of the conflict? Immoral or just war?
