Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

As i said earlier my fears may not be confounded at all. I just do think he will continue to advance west after he seizes the Ukraine. Not immediately, but over time.
He is a power hungry old man, with less and less to lose.
The second one Russian round is fired in somewhere like Poland or Hungary he'd be done in days. He hasn’t got resources to do it.

I get your point, I just think that stopping things at source is better than letting things develop. I could be making too many similarities with WW2 but it’s just my opinion. Which yes, is very easy to have when I’m not on the front line.
That’s the problem maye it isn’t ww2 it’s much more advanced

I agree, its more likely to be accidently fire across a border than an invasion, I think Putin has miscalculated all this, I think he thought it would be long over and do with before the west could react and all he would have to deal with was sanctions after the fact, but its going slow, this is not what he would have expected.

My point is to nip this in the bud now to save the lives of many. It will also stop the advancement closer to our own back yard.
Me not been in the military has nothing to do with it. I suppose you believe no one can comment on politics if they’re not a politician, or football if they’re not a footballer.

that’s not what you said in post #7966, reference to “not signing a bit of paper” made it clear what you meant

As to what I believe it’s quite simple you shouldn’t tell others to do what your not prepared todo yourself

This is a true story. I/we have a discord channel for when we play the odd game, it’s only about ten of us that have known eachother about twenty years. One of us is a Ukrainian from Lviv. He was online until the early hours of Friday morning. Today one of our mob woke up, he lives in Dresden, and the Ukrainian is only sitting on his doorstep

Got out of Ukraine and a polish wagon driver dropped him in Germany

Been reading your posts the last few days and think you have been a cracking poster, with some insightful stuff, but the bit in bold is a little unfair to be honest.

Being for us to intervene is a big difference to saying I would go and across and fight, its super easy to say it on a message board, the poster was honest to admit he would be scared and wouldn't want to fight, doesn't make him a coward, just makes him normal, I think most squaddies get scared, just the training kicks it and as you will know from serving, when the shit hits the fan, your not fighting for queen or country, your fighting at that moment for your mates around you and that trumps being scared.

All my mates, some of my family served, i got knocked back but signed up for the TA ( medical less stringent in the TA it seems ) So i cant talk from real experience as never really served, but I know from my talks with my mates who did serve in warzones some of the thought processes, mind they were all different when they came back and didn't really like talking to me a civ as opposed to talking amongst people who really knew, as they had been there.
I take your point Marra maybe it was a tad but I seen his posts as send others first now without a care in the world bit of a asking as I’m alright jack and on here from some
We can’t win as we are the worst to others we are the best. I felt as his posts was fuck the rest il be okay if I’m wrong il hold my hands up. I replied to another poster earlier who said he wouldn’t go who posted with a little more respect with a different answer.

Glad you managed to get in the TA and at least got to be a part of what you wanted.

Big question now about Russian supply lines. They didn’t manage to capture the airfields or a route through to Kiev.

After an intensive fire fight if they are out of ammo too then they are effectively sitting ducks

I’d be surprised if they didn’t move to the Air Force now.

Hopefully the NATO allies have got the Ukrainian’s air defences back up for them

very good point, I think everything depended on that first airfield attack, its very telling the resupply had to turn back because the captured Airfield wasn't held long enough.

this has meant moving to plan B and delays.

Stories like this - your group of mates who’ve never met, a polish wagon driver offering help - really make me believe there is good in the world. Small pockets, but really good people.

The bit of paper being entry to NATO?

Blocking them from Swift would be huge. And have massive impact on global banking so it should t be taken lightly. I’m in two minds about it tbh.
Sod morals and finance for now, I can’t believe people are still debating it
