Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is such an inspiring leader.

what a man and I feel the Ukrainians are lucky to have their "Churchill" at just the right time. I truly believe his addresses are what's keeping the city going, what a moral boost to have a leader basically saying "do as I do" I wonder how many other leaders would be the same these days, remember Churchill often put himself in danger and more than once the King had to step in, it makes the world of difference to have your leaders leading from the front.

I hope they hang on and peace comes before the Russians get to him, no way he would be allowed to live.

It’s closest major ally sitting on the fence is about as close to a condemnation as you’ll get

Sorry, I’d missed this because all of the Twitter links which are playing havoc with page scrolling.

China has just signed a deal with Russia for gas. They are protecting their own economy here and to publicly criticise Russia will put their own energy needs at risk and by extension, their own economic growth.

I don’t think the Chinese give a flying fuck about the Ukrainians and will always put their own interests first.

If they did care, or object, then their statement should be much clearer. You can’t assume that a neutral vote is a positive one.

Of course they’re protecting their own interests, and their interests is not to piss off the rest of the world who imports unbelievable amounts of Chinese production

I’d say on this one their neutral stance shows they don’t want to turn one way or the other

China only care about money. They're like absolute the absolute mercenaries of the world. Ukraine is China's biggest exporter of agriculture so they're gonna be bothered with what's going on.

They don't give a fuck about us or the US because we blocked Huawei

This is the first conflict we’ve had with social media, where the bystanders look like us. It’s not the Middle East. It’s Europe. It’s here. It could be us. Photos of little kids in metro stations looking scared - we can relate to it so easily. Some of us know and work with Ukrainians. Rightly or wrongly it’s a lot closer than Syria to us.
there was a 'photo when it all kicked off with 2 russians who had been captured and taken prisoner. one looked mid 20's and the other looked like a teenager. just kids ffs and they looked terrified. i can't get that image out of my head.
it matters not in the slightest whether they look like us or not or wherever in the world war takes place imo and i'm not going down that route in case the thread gets derailed.

A war between Russia and the Ukraine doesn’t affect their economy. Directly. So why would they care? It does affect them if they oppose the conflict, hence abstaining. Their export sales would take a battering if the publicly supported this.

Correct, and I didn’t mean to derail the thread at all. Any innocent bystanders in war is bad, doesn’t matter what they look like.

I’m sorry have you had your hands over your eyes and ears the last 2-3 days?

Anyway, let’s keep this to the important matters of what’s happening on the ground in Ukraine now

For those of us of in our mid 40's onwards it also signals the end of the dream we all had thirty some years ago. The end of the cold war, the end of the Soviet state and all the crap that came with communism and the dictatorship. We watched and cheered eastern europe as it was set free and tried to build democracies and flourish like the west. History does seem to just repeat, still I sit here this morning and struggle to accept it's all thrown away for the sake of one mans ego, just total bollocks.

You can’t sell anything if you don’t have the energy to make it. Their consideration of the problem (and it is a problem to them) will be governed by balance between supply and export sales. The former having a larger impact than a small proportion of their overall exports.

The rolling headline is "Ukranian Army shells Donbass School, killing two teachers" and Donetsk is "the safest it has been for eight years" since Russia's advance.

What is particularly odd is the British news readers fronting the show. I will cease commenting on the broadcast.
RT's main Lord Haw Haw is the son of the really well-respected former journalist John Suchet. Feel for him, he must be sickened to hear his son being paid to lie on behalf of the people shelling civilians.

I'm not derailing the thread here but we are hardly a bastion of morality with our western capitalism influenced society. Anyway that's an argument for a different thread.
