Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

The most worrying development from tonight is the fact Putin requested Kazakhstan to move their forces in.

Although it was declined, it's become clear this is a Nazi-like regime to dominate the Eastern Europe.

It was obvious from the start the rebels from Luhansk and Donestk and Belarus would join forces but the fact he's requested from geographically far-wide areas who are pro-USSR this is not about patroitism. He must be stopped.

The only silver lining is the fact China refused to propose in favour of Russia during the UN vote, even the tyrant's there think he's gone too far.

Fully understand why countries aren't wanting to risk wider conflict by sending troops in, but surely the world couldn't just sit back if he starts mass murdering civilians? I mean, I don't know what the answer would be, but could countries really sit back while a lunatic unleashes that on a friendly, sovereign nation? I just hope to fuck that I wake up and there's not been an atrocity of historic scale but with the way Putin seems to be acting you almost think it's only going to end if some, more sensible, heads in Russia decide to remove him
There’s some pretty grim stuff on social media showing dead civilians already mind.

I don’t see China electing to be neutral as a positive. If anything, their relationship with Russia matters more than their relationship with the west, both economically and politically. I see why they don’t actively support but if they disagreed, then I’d expect a statement of public condemnation.

There are very few country leaders who would take his stance and fight on the streets. Huge respect.

A UN vote is pretty much a public condemnation. A failure to approve of their actions considering China will be the biggest trading partner post-sanction and Putin was Xi's special guest of honour to open the recent winter Olympics. The fact China have publicly refused to agree with Russia's actions is a massive W for the west.

China is pretty much relevant in what's going on because of their dispute over Taiwan, although Taiwan have a mandatory defence treaty with America, have found cause the test the waters with the West's weak response

Another W is the fact India refused to agree also . India isn't so far off Putin when it comes to patriotism with his own agenda with the annexation of Kashmir when it's majorly Pakistan favoured.

Putin has found favour with the obvious circle of Syria, Iran, and North Korea, but expected India and China which the latter are nuclear nations, the fact they refuse to agree even them bonkers nations think he's too bonkers for their own liking.

Looks like an intense night but Ukraine seem to have weathered the storm.

They are claiming they destroyed 530 Russian APCs and have just shot down another il-76 plane carrying paratroopers

I’m aware I’m totally clutching at straws at every slightly positive news story, but I was genuinely worried waking up the morning and switching on the news. Thanks to all continuing to post updates on here.

Haway Ukraine! Windmill the Fuckers.

same here.

whilst i see the sentiment in the last bit i'd love for the russians and the ukranians come to some sort of agreement (whatever that may be) putin engages reverse gear whilst deludedly claiming some sort of victory and no more bloodshed on either side.
if i'm totally honest some of the images and stories have gone far deeper than i thought they would and whilst i'm not particularly religious i've prayed for it to stop.

They abstained from voting. You can’t surmise that a neutral vote is a statement of positive condemnation, otherwise they’d have voted against. They’re publicly sitting on the fence.
I do hope that I’m wrong and they change their disclosed opinion as China has more influence on Russia than any western country.

It’s closest major ally sitting on the fence is about as close to a condemnation as you’ll get

For reasons I can’t yet reconcile, I’m very affected by what’s happening in the Ukraine. This conflict matters and it matters on many very real levels. I hope the end to this is quick and with the least amount of suffering.
Nails.

A very subtle yet poignant insult.

I hope the Russians and let’s not forget the Belorussian’s get an absolute hiding and get offered to surrender, lay down your arms and walk to the border. The shit of the last 20 years with putin needs to end now and for all Russians to see via non-state tv the truth.

This is more in hope than expectation but it’s better to end this once and for all

It's like Linfield the most protestant football club across the Irish Sea abstaining against Glasgow Rangers. The hint's there they don't agree with what's going on.

This is the first conflict we’ve had with social media, where the bystanders look like us. It’s not the Middle East. It’s Europe. It’s here. It could be us. Photos of little kids in metro stations looking scared - we can relate to it so easily. Some of us know and work with Ukrainians. Rightly or wrongly it’s a lot closer than Syria to us.
