Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Putin has now directly threatened Finland and Sweden against joining NATO, this in top of the threat to any other country helping Ukraine during this time.

Pretty chilling stuff, and I'm genuinely worried Putin wants his place in history, whatever the price.

If this starts to go badly for Russia, and I think it might, I can see him ordering nuclear strikes. Whether his military team will go through with it on his orders is another question, but I honestly think we've never been closer to a nuclear war.

Sadly I agree

Apologies if already posted: The world is watching this Vlad, yes your own people too.

We're the Goodies remember

This is why I post what I do mate. Because I'm interested in how my country *actually* treats its people and the people it claims to care for, not the feel good narratives it spins while quietly washing its hands off the consequences of its actions
Eh, since when has any government accepted or declined application for visa cards

She’s been very selective with her words for optimal government bashing.

Sky news 5 minutes ago "Three or four loud explosions just heard in Kyiv".

Cuts to a news article for a minute.

"Another 5th explosion just happened"

No footage. Even though he was live and would certainly have recorded it.

My god its like a Russian bot account,

Deflect, Deflect, Deflect.

You missed the point, We had no choice due to the article 5 treaty in NATO but to help the USA in Afghanistan, all NATO members helped in one way or another, it was an act after a NATO member was attacked. Its simple really.

Just because we were working with Russia isnt the issue, we have condemned his attack, So what if we traded with them in the past, its what is happening now thats important, Russia has broken the treaty to safe guard Ukraine's borders, not us, not the USA , just Russia. Russia lied about working on diplomacy while moving troops into place to attack on many fronts, Putin was always going to attack no matter what, we can see that clearly now.

Do you know our current policy with regards safe guarding Ukraine citizens?

You do understand how stupid your sounding, Russia was trading, investing and working with most of the developed world, and it was encouraged to make sure we didn't slip back to another cold war, but Putin has invaded another country, its how we react how thats important and unlike Germany, Italy and a few others we have condemned it and started the ball rolling with sanctions, I hope we ramp the sanctions up as we go.

But you know this and are posting a load of crap to deflect from the issue.

Russia has attacked an European country for no other reason to split it up, cause a change in that countries government and to stop the free will of that country in have closer ties to NATO and the EU.
I’d give up mate, the blokes an absolute weapon best ignored.

Other countries have lifted any restrictions.

We're asking refugees to go through a process which is baffling and exhaustive even peace time and only after reaching centres in Poland, Romania, Hungary and Moldova

So happy to jump in when they think they need it
They've been living next to the angry neighbour for a long time, not making too much noise.
They even stop tourists taking pictures of Russian border posts from inside Finland, cos they don't want to annoy them.

Turns out the angry neighbour is still likely to kick their door in, so why not consider joining NATO?

You'll find very few people who were victims of the invasion in the ME who agree with your perspectives on that war though. Saying we had no choice but to invade is f***ing absurd. We're entirely responsible for the enormous level of investment and cost in lives that resulted from our degree of commitment.
its not the time of place to discuss this as this thread is about current issues, but I have to ask this.

If we refused to help the USA after they had called article 5, you do understand that would have meant we had broken the NATO treaties and the view of an attack on 1 is an attack on all.

Also can you remind me who invaded who first with regards Iraq, you do understand it was the attack on Kuwait that started us down this road, that ended how it did, you also understand it was UN approved the action against Irag.

So my question is, should we have broke our NATO promise and left our allies to it?

I have my own thoughts and misgivings about our past, but this thread is not the time or the place to discuss it, why not start a thread and I will happily debate with you, but for now best we move on and not clog up a very important thread.
