Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

To me they read as a man who knows he has to threaten, because if someone does meaningfully intervene he's in really bad shape. He's desperate and nervous because he's extending his forces to their max: yes, they will win eventually, but they are not having an easy time of it.

He will overthrow the government and install a puppet, but he will never hold it in my opinion. This could rumble on for years. Hopefully someone decides its time for Putin to retire to a nice cottage in the country. Preferably one with bars on the windows

Genuinely saw someone on twitter earlier laying part of the blame for the Russian invasion on Greta Thunberg

It's like they are so wildly angry about their own lives they lash out and scream insane sh*t without realising that none of it makes any sense and they have been completely duped.

that actually made me laugh

All about cheaper gas unfortunately, that matters more to governments than the people of Ukraine. I thought Germany would have been all over this, but halting a gas pipe that was not yet operational seems pathetic. What's the odds it's opened at exactly the same time it would have anyway?

The richer EU states should be embarrassed, but until their population kicks off, cheaper gas is more of a political point that the death of Ukraine citizens. Cowards.
Difficult one, listening to Kate Adler this morning whilst EU imports 40% of its gas from Russia some countries actually import something like 80% with germany at 50%. I reckon that they’re more concerned about the supply of the stuff rather than the price

William Storey putting a bid together
Absolute disgrace what is happening in Russia. And an even bigger disgrace that Roman Abramovich is clinging onto something he knows he cannot keep! I've got very high profile people backing my bid. We'll get Chelsea back to top of the league again. Making some big moves already. #Chelsea #RichEnergy #ChelseaFC #Abramovich #Putin #RussiaUkraine

I've not been able to keep up-to-date with this thread for the couple of days. Are the Putin fanboys still here, or have they retreated into the woodwork?

I can see that view point and why it would be tricky but (I might be completely wrong here) can they not turn on the coal fired power stations like we do when we are desperate? I'm not sure if you can just swap coal and gas mind.

Or just but it off the worldmarket and overpay? Let the European bank subsidise the additional costs? There must be something?

They won't care until politically, the lives of the Ukrainian people cost more than gas.

Sooner the world is off fossil fuels the better.

Countries like Norway, UK and the US need to massively up Gas and oil production at least for the short term, even for the medium term, if as it seems likely that this stand off will last for years.
