Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Absolute top respect and admiration for those Ukrainians, especially civilians, who are taking up arms and facing up to the Russian army. Balls as big as watermelons those gadgies.

Fuck knows what I'd do in that position. I guess once a few start standing up then more and more would follow. Imagine your next door neighbor fleeing the country, being in relative safety and surviving the war whilst you laid down your life.

Must be torturous what they are going through.

Id doubt the blokes of Britain would do it
I think many would tbh.

I would if I got to drive a tank

I’d love a go in one of them

I’ve read enough - you’re wrong. Freezing the assets of Oligarchs (including football clubs) is important
I've never said it isn't if you look. I've advocated it as a tool from the start, so you clearly haven't read enough. But latching on to concerns about our ownership, or Chelsea or whoever is trivialising it. They may be worth a billion quid as someone claims, but its a tiny drop.
In isolation its trivial.

We were discussing the build up to the current invasion. There was an active arrangement in place and it was being monitored by the OSCE, I provided a link to one of their reports upthread.

I think Russian nationalism is plain to see and not really a debating point. It's the antithesis of our values.

I think when it comes to weapons grade cognitive dissonance, you should try reading the posts and responding to what they say because you're another who when applying imagination manages to fly miles from the point.

The fact that the Ukraine parliament is not populated by far right groups does not mean they don't exist and it doesn't have influence.

I don't know if you're simply unaware but if you are, don't you ask yourself where the far right militias get their weapons, why are they allowed to operate and why no-one has brought them to account for the allegations of human rights abuses and war crimes?

As I said in another post, we need to consider the ramifications of getting into bed with some of these people.

You're the one applying too much imagination, pal. You're coming from the sixth form assumption that the truth must be equidistant between western liberal media and RT Kremlin disinformation, without worrying too much about the relative credibility of the two sources.

RT successfully brainwashed Useful Idiots into believing the Syrian revolution was Islamist, due to the participation of a few Islamist groups. They're employing the same disinformation strategy with the Azov battalion and the Ukrainian government.

Everyone knows where the Azov Battalion get their arms from: the Ukrainian government. They're part of the National Guard and tolerated because they're ruthless fighters in a dirty guerrilla war. For every alleged war-crime there are an equal or greater number of allegations against the separatists, made up of nationalists, Russian mercenaries and outright criminals like 'Motorola'. But you aren't too arsed about them, or the war crimes currently being committed by the Russian army, just that Kremlin line cos it makes you an edgy free-thinker.

With the arming of civilians are the Russian soldiers going to be under orders that everyone and anyone is a 'legitimate' target?

There's going to be so many unnecessary deaths on both sides. I can't believe there's still people posting on here with implied admiration for Putin.

Jog on back to your Russia Today 4Chan page.

Pretty grim thread from an American journalist who just walked from Ukraine into Poland.

The rounding up of fighting men is a tragedy.
bbc news reporting EU considering an asset freeze on Putin and someone else

Heard on the radio that Germany aren't in favour of banning Russia from SWIFT because they pay for their gas upfront to Russia and are massively in credit.

Comedy.

What point are you trying to make?

I can't even lie and say I'd be utterly shitting my pants, but when you have no where to go and you need to defend your family from this mess you try your best to overcome the fear.

Once they start putting tanks on the street it won't last long unfortunately. Sky news have just showed a convoy of tanks rolling through the country, presumably on their way to Kyiv. They had to speed the footage up as it was 38 minutes long of just tanks bumper to bumper. That's a lot of hardware.
Tanks are extremely vulnerable to a well equipped enemy defence.

They also need high quality infantry support.

If the Ukraine forces have enough of those anti tank weapons us and others gave them it could be a bloody nose for Ivan
