Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

He nukes London and he dooms the entire russian people forever, including himself.

He cannot be allowed to do this, and he will not stop!
I don’t know to be honest whether the expected response would materialise, on the brink of destroying human civilisation even totalitarian state control starts to be more acceptable. I’ve never been convinced that any sane leader would actually retaliate.

Might have been mentioned but just seen a Russian tank run over a civilian car in, I think, Kiev.
Somehow the occupant survived. I can't 100% verify the second clip of them trying to get the old driver out but looks genuine to me.

Awful. Just mindless attempted killing for fun. Nothing more than sick pleasure.

Bit of an update on this lad this morning. Apparently he's decided to join his mates and his dad in picking up a rifle and heading to Kyiv.

Just an ordinary fella probably like plenty of others I've worked with myself. I don't know the lad but I'm rooting for him.

Absolutely heartbreaking stuff and by the looks of it there is going to be significant civilian casualties. Most of those taking arms to protect their sovereignty are just ordinary people, factory workers, barbers etc.

There may be a point at which that risk has to be taken. Not the best way of testing our deterrent but, assuming Putin hasn’t gone stark raving mad, very unlikely to happen.
Not that long ago that a good percentage of the posters on here wanted to vote for a man and his cronies who would have removed our deterrent.

There`s 10,000`s on the streets of Moscow and St. Petersburg protesting about this war and Putin has rolled out the old dictator`s chestnut that anyone calling for peace is committing treason. ordinary people just want to live a peaceful, happy life with their families but there`s always some nutter somewhere with megalomaniac tendencies to scupper everything.

Aye. But apparently the poor lambs don't even want to be there and don't even know why they're there.

Hope the Ukrainian dudes keep piling bullets into them and win the fucker.

Ukrainian Ambassador asking for NATO forces to enter Ukraine and help. Very passionate speaking here, hes not missing a beat.
It actually breaks my heart seeing Ukraine’s supposed friends and allies wash their hands of them and hide behind sanctions. Ukraine trusted and believed the west when they gave up their nuclear capabilities, they believed them when they gave them assurances of friendship, and they accepted the in-but-out nature of their NATO relationship to not antagonise Russia. Now they have been abandoned. Seeing their politicians plead on TV for their friends to stand by their side getting gradually more despondent as they realise nobody is coming to their aid as citizens hide in subways and their infrastructure is flattened.

Just been thinking about this. The only NATO countries with a border to Russia are Latvia and Estonia. Lithuania has no border with Russia. Poland does not have a border to Russia but the pro-Russian Belarus does. The Balkan states border is comparatively small. Ukraine has by far the biggest border with Russia. Finland to the North is a neutral non NATO state. Ukraine will clearly be the biggest fear for Russia. I was just reading Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall last night and it covers the Russian/Ukraine/Crimean issue very well and explains the underlying issues. One of the things it mentions a fair bit is Russia`s fears of the Ukraine joining NATO. It actually says that this is a very clear red line that Putin would not tolerate. Quite prophetic.

They don’t currently but by invading Ukraine and controlling it surely they are then opening their (or their allies) border directly to Neighbouring Nato countries? Or is it that they propose to use Ukraine and Belarus as a barrier to Russia?

Fair to say tank drivers will be professional soldiers not conscripts so fuck em.
