Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

They got their arse handed to them off the muslims in Chechnya originally

Exactly. Chechnya is only not revolting because they have a Putin installed puppet in charge. Once he goes it's round 2 but they'll be even more resentful.

I mean like it's wrong to encourage Terrorists, but it'll be nice to see some Karma and Putin having to deal with it himself with absolutely zero outside help.

The bit I don’t get, so humour me, is how he holds it. He can put a puppet in place, but they have had years of democracy (relatively), and the ill feeling must be through the roof.

Do they seriously have the troop numbers to hold it for years?

This. They can win the initial war but they don't have the capacity to occupy Ukraine, a country of 48 million people.

Let's put it this way if the United States and its allies could not secure Afghanistan...

I reckon it's more hot air and posturing on all sides. All the scaremongering reports of troop build ups in the past year or so have proved to be exaggerated. Latest talk of "plans for an invasion" came from a supposed intelligence leak hot on the heals of Zelensky's annual address where he talked about re-taking Crimea, increased military investment and forging closer ties to US and co-operation with NATO.

I look at it and think what will Russia achieve by invading Ukraine? I can't think of anything other than a world of hurt for Russians and Ukrainians alike.
The Russian people dont want it. Much like the Germans in WW2. German people are still embarrassed by it now. This will be the same.

Mad we see Men from the Ukraine taking up arms and kissing goodbye to their kids to defend their country.

Meanwhile many men in britain have spent 2 years crying about their civil rights because the pubs were shut for a bit and they had to stick a mask on for 20 mins to go into Aldi.
Its about as bad as people whinging about people "crying" about civil rights

When has it ever mattered what the Russian population wanted?
It’s also very hard to actually know what the Russian people want. I’d like to think that they are all against this war and that the people saying young Russians have no appetite for war are right.

We all know how propaganda works. We’ll only see Russians condemning the war, Russians will only see Russians supporting it.

It will take years to find out the truth.

good thread here which i agree with.
i suppose he hopes to end this quickly but ukraine has a decent sized military and is a large expansive country. occupying it won't be fun for them either. how many troops will putin have to commit and for how long?
the longer the ukraine can hold out the worse this will get for putin (and the more dangerous he may become).

They've only deployed 20% of their forces lol. Approx 30k in Ukraine, there was about 200k on both borders.

I'd say they're just testing the waters. The main unit is expected to reach Kyiv tonight (our time) and the more resistance they find the more resources they'll throw at it
I don’t doubt for a second that Russia is gonna own Ukraine by next weekend. Just the longer they take the less likely they are to get carried away.
A big hit on their forces and they would think twice before making anymore moves

Well if a country is allowed to occupy another European nation in 2022, and nothing is done by UN or NATO, we may as well all pack in.
