Germany buy a lot from Russia 35% of their gas and other European countries it would still hurt them.

No. Germany have put sanctions in place to stop imports. Separately, China has signed a deal to import gas.
Disruption, war and an increased demand for energy drives economies. I honestly think this is as much of a driver if not more then the reasons Putin said in his speech.

As you say, a lot of Russians hate their leader. Surely I’m also free to dislike Johnson after all the lying he’s done? And the money he’s taken from the oligarchs?

Mate I agree, I’m as much anti tories as anyone, but my point is arguing with each other about it is bollocks when really, no matter whether we Tory, labour, bloody green or whatever, times like this it doesn’t really matter when as a country, nation, alliance we need to stick together.

I said this to a colleague only yesterday. China has profiteered from covid. Russia <could> profiteer from war. I don’t believe the public statements made by Putin, but I also struggle to reconcile why he has chosen to do this. Revenue is high on his agenda. IMO obviously.
There's a chance he's gone paranoid crackers these last two years. Covid would have been the ideal cover for him to be poisoned or such like.

So they have China and only China, no one else will touch them with a barge pole I mean those pipes could even be sabotaged from the EU

The thought of them having Chernobyl as a weapon to unleash untold destruction on the world though is frightening beyond belief.

Dunno why everyone's freaking out over Chernobyl as if it would somehow be worse when there's ten or so working nuclear reactors in Ukraine which don't get a mention.

When the Chernobyl incident happened the radiation cloud first drifted over Ukraine, Belarus and...Russia. Breaking open the sarcophagus and shelling it or whatever mad plan people think they have would be a bit like shooting yourself in the head and hoping the bullet passes through and hits the fella next to you.

Been $105 at one stage today......soon be 1.70p PL
A very small price to pay to get nearer to a conclusion of what is still effectively the Cold War, however this time the Russians have lit a match rather than threatening to start a fire

Slightly off topic but I don’t know how the American president can say Putin made up a story about Ukraine having chemical weapons just to invade.
Does his team not see what they’re saying? The world is watching ffs

If the Russians are struggling which would be humiliating for Putin then I dread to think what lengths he might go to. Double edged sword.
they'll do what they've done in the past when advances have been halted, step back and use heavy artillery to pulverise the target

Was thinking the same. Also all these sanctions on russia ( not saying should not be any) will hurt their ordinary people. Could well rally them behind Putin rather than against him and start a hatred of the west.
