Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Which it did in 86. Horrible but to think some fool blowing that up compares to a nuclear exchange is daft.

Can anyone alive in 86 (like me) say how Chernobyl directly affected them except for avoiding milk for a few weeks?

Not trivialising it just saying its stupidity if they do it. Literally pissing on own doorstep. Belarus was by far the most affected country in 86.
It didn't affect the UK too much. Countries closer to the accident felt worse effects iirc

Sounds like the Russians thought they'd be welcomed.

Perhaps conceivable. It appears this is years in the making and it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest of they’ve been pre conditioned to believe they are serving a welcomed justice.

Might actually be an advantage to Ukrainians.

Why did Boris say we are banning dual purpose items to Russia? Surely we should just ban everything heading that direction.

Surely we should be banning them from the Swift system all together!!!!

How prescient is this piece of history, in terms of today's events...

One of Hitler's primary goals was territorial expansion for the German state. He fully planned to use war as a means to this end.

In 1938, Hitler turned his gaze toward Czechoslovakia, a country newly created by the Versailles Treaty under the concept of national self-determination.

This tenet stated that national and ethnic groups had the right to determine their own political destinies. However, it was impossible to ensure that all national borders defined all ethnic groups, and thus a large number of Germans suddenly found themselves in a portion of Czechoslovakia known as the Sudetenland.

Encouraged by the Nazis, nationalist Germans in the Sudetenland clamored for a return to Germany.

Hitler turned the terms of the Versailles Treaty against its authors. He claimed that “3,500,000 Germans were torn away from their compatriots by a company of madmen [Versailles Treaty].”

He and his collaborators in Czechoslovakia added that Germans were being oppressed.

Hitler, therefore, demanded that the Sudetenland be returned to Germany according to the tenets of national self-determination.

He made it clear to Europe that Germany was preparing to attack Czechoslovakia in “defense” of its people.

"Greater Russia is now a full-spectrum commodity superpower, less vulnerable to sanctions than Europe itself"

Good article in The Telegraph about the impact of sanctions and our reliance on commodities in the West which Russia controls.

Ukrainian attitudes towards Russia

Negative9%---13%9%12%60%72%

Is that a view of their attitude towards Russian people or being invaded/controlled by Russia?

in the interests of fairness the least the BBC , itv , c4 , sky etc could have done was broadcast the whole of putins address not a 90 second clip , wouldnt you think a situation like this would warrant that?
What are you wibbling at now? Why on earth do any of them need to act as his mouthpiece. Ludicrous.

He also said the Sandy Hook attack was faked, satanists were taking over America, bull gates is a eugenicist trying to wipe out minorities, the government is controlling the weather, that there’s a child sex ring based in a pizza shop and many other things.

If you throw enough of your own shite at a dartboard eventually you’ll get a winnnit to stick on the treble 20.

I think they may be a bit too busy to hold a poll on being invaded at the moment mate

Well you’ve just put up a pole about Ukraine and Russian relations I was just asking what the % meant. Just because they have a positive view of Russian people it doesn’t mean that they’d want Russia to control them?
