Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

Nothing off the table except meaningful action and the immediate repayment of donations from Russia to the Tory party or the immediate removal of Russia from SWIFT.
Does the U.K. have the authority to remove Russia from SWIFT? if so how do they go about it.

I dunno, it just doesn't seem to stack up. All of this death, destruction, the political crisis, the risk to his economy and to his country, the untold stress that he has caused himself, the fact that he can't possibly come out of this as a winner, I just can't weigh up what he is set to gain, whether and ego trip or expanding Russia's territory, against what he is risking losing.

Just seems like there is something else at play. Surely the entire invasion has been discussed by his cabinet and it isn't just happening on the whim of one 69 year old bloke ?
You think there is a single person in the ‘government’ who doesn’t just say what he wants to hear? This is the guy who arrests and kills opposition politicians remember.

He did try and pretend there was a debate:

Nobody is saying that war and killing isn't inevitable at this point. Rather, that it's strange to cheer the deaths of young lads, rather then wish for it to be settled without bloodshed.
I think the last sentence is poetic licence from you tbh, don't think anybody has specifically said that. Just realistically as you say, the only thing to hope for now is for Ukraine to successfully resist, I don't even know if that's realistic.

Madness , get them out as the army is approaching
A good journalist never leaves their post until the last possible moment. Probably the people I respect most and am most fascinated by. Absolute heroes and always great people if you ever get to see them speak at events. Simpson, Bowen, Aidie etc have all spoken at the Cheltenham Literature Festival and are always popular.
