Russia invading Ukraine (NEWS/UPDATES)

when the nukes were removed from Ukraine we agreed with the US to look after the Ukraine iirc, I think Russia also agreed to look after Ukraine's borders, damn disgrace we let this happen.
We, along with the USA and Russia, signed "The Budapest Memorandum" in 1994 in which we pledged to safeguard Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Belarus's sovereignty if they gave up nuclear weapons.

We, and the USA, have consistently failed to honour this agreement. Putin understandably thinks we are a bunch of softcocks who are scared of him and he will keep taking the piss until stopped.

He doesn't need to. A united Europe is more than capable of stopping this idiot.

Well, the French have already surrendered, the Germans fear the consequences of applying sanctions, the Netherlands wants maximum sanctions. There's no consensus. There ARE American troops in these countries though and Putin definitely won't engage them imo. He'll take the soft targets like Moldova though.

I appreciate that I was referring the comment that Vlad considers the Ukraine joining Nato to be a threat as that would put Nato on his doorstep. To counter this he has invaded the Ukraine which moves his border further west on to Nato's doorstep

My point is that it’s not really an argument as other countries already bordered Russia the only difference is that Ukraine aren’t yet part of NATO. Concern is they don’t just stop in Ukraine - that’s not to take away from the fact that it’s horrendous that they are invading Ukraine.
Don't expect any more countries to be invaded any time soon.

Destabilisation of the Baltic states is a very real possibility - Latvia has a reasonably large ethnic Russian population - so they may be next on Vlads agenda (full NATO member so increased potential for global catastrophe!)

Ah mate, that’s a good question, no invasion is justified anywhere in my opinion. We’re all free folk who should be able to roam where we please, worship who we want, etc. it’s all about respecting differences in beliefs and cultures.

But to answer in the context of what’s actually happened…I’m not surprised he’s invaded, I can see where he’s coming from, Russo has been backed into a corner, Ukraine can be snidey little fuckers who will wind him up until he snaps….they’re both as bad as each other in some regards.

Let them find a big bit of wasteland in Siberia and fight it out there…leave everyone else out of it. Think that’s where nato are spot on, let them fight it out themselves to start with and watch how it pans out. This ain’t a time for knee jerk reactions (even though they’ve had years of watching these two countries fighting each other)
How has Russia been backed into a corner, Russia first invaded 2014. Maybe that was the catalyst for Ukraine wanting to join NATO

You simply cannot, and should not, invade a neighboring country. End of.

Ask anybody who knows Russian mindset, history etc. It wouldn't have mattered if Ukraine had asked to join NATO or not.

Intervention is needed quickly im afraid. There comes a time in history where its harder to say no, but you have to anyway.

I'm saying nothing could have been done to stop the US from invading Cuba had they decided to go ahead with it

and no, still not seeing the parallels
Ok then here's a few links, the Washington post one you have to subscribe and the last link is a very good read as is the book 'The Doomsday Machine' although it's somewhat anti Trump, only £8 on Amazon nonetheless..

Ive said previously if the Ukraine army fights, the Russians may regret this.
They will put up a huge fight lot of them probably better trained than what Russia have sent in right now also quantity will eventually win but quality will hold them off for and do some great damage.

This is the way to stop it. Well done to them, takes some balls but it’s the right thing to do .
The one benefit to the wide spread use of social media is to ensure that this reported. Ideally in a way that doesn't expose those who are protesting. Balls of steel on those willing to put themselves out there.
